The story follows Nishikata and Takagi, two middle school students who sit next to each other in class. As the title suggests, Takagi is a master in teasing. She likes Nishikata and enjoys teasing him. Oblivious to this fact, Nishikata takes it as a challenge and comes up with various plans to take revenge on Takagi. But easier said than done, as Takagi is always a step ahead. She always finds a counter to every move he makes.
Nishikata doesn’t give up though, and tries time and time again to tease her. Will he be able to make Takagi blush, or will the trend continue? Find out in Teasing Master Takagi-san.
The back and forth between Nishikata and Takagi is really fun to follow. Although there are a few recurring supporting characters, they have minor roles. The main focus is on Takagi and Nishikata. Nishikata is dense, and Takagi can’t gather the courage to express her feelings. Both of their antics are fun to watch and keep up with. The chemistry between the pair is fantastic.
A lot of times in anime, regular students don’t seem regular at all. This is not the case with Takagi-san, and the characters feel like regular kids as they are just in middle school. There is no unnecessary drama in their lives. They react to situations just like a child their age would. The themes can be a bit repetitive, but it doesn’t feel boring at all.
The Adaptation
The animation studio has done a good job in adapting the manga. The animation quality is simple and what one would expect from these types of rom-com series. But as they say, Simple is best. The music is also good and suits the theme of the show perfectly.
The voice actors for both characters have done a very good job in realizing them. Rie Takahashi, the voice actress for Takagi, was an absolute delight to listen to. She has also performed various ending themes for the show. Some people may have a problem with how there’s very little to no plot progression. There is no overarching plot. I can see how that may turn some people away from the show. But the thing is, it isn’t that kind of show. And If you are willing to put that aside, then I can assure you that you will love Takagi-san.
All in all, Teasing master Takagi-san is a wholesome slice of life anime filled to the brim with fluff. It is sure to make your heart skip a beat.
