You started to air initially on Lifetime. The psychological thriller television series was order back in July 2018. Then there was a change at the helm of the series. On December 3, 2018, it was announced that You was passed by Lifetime to Netflix. With the move, it was confirmed that You would now be deemed a Netflix Original series.

The second season of the show is expected to be loosely based on the novel Hidden Bodies by Caroline Kepnes. The second season will follow Joe Goldberg. Joe goes on a trip to Los Angeles, and he has his eyes and obsession set on an aspiring chef, Love Quinn.
