American Girl has started the new year by revealing its first hearing-impaired doll and 2020 Girl of the Year. This popular doll line is owned by Mattel, introduced Joss Kendrick, with the help of Olympic surfing hopeful Caroline Marks. She (Joss) is described by the company as “a fierce athlete born with hearing loss and a passion for surfing and competitive cheer.” Her amazing story is based on her hometown of Huntington Beach, California.
The doll has brown hair and brown eyes and comes with a removable hearing aid. Jamie Cygielman who is the general manager of American Girl said: “American Girl has a rich legacy of creating timeless characters who encourage girls to reach for new heights and discover who they’re meant to be.” He further said “Working with Olympic hopeful surfer Caroline Marks adds real-world inspiration about what can happen when you go ‘all in’ on your dreams.”
What is even more amazing is that American Girl is partnering up with the Hearing Loss Association of America in order to raise awareness and collect donations. The company is planning to donate $25,000 to the organization and to support its annual walk. From 1 January, it will also take donations for the HLAA in American Girl retail stores. Joss is available online starting Tuesday and in stores starting Wednesday. This doll is 18-inch in size and its price is $98.
