Kadokawa recently unveiled a promotional video for the upcoming second season of Daisuke Aizawa’s The Eminence in Shadow (Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!) light novel series, giving fans a sneak peek. The video also introduced the opening theme song, “Grayscale Dominator,” performed by the music duo OxT, who fans might remember from the anime’s first season.
HIDIVE and Kadokawa treated fans to a world premiere screening of the anime at Anime Expo on July 1 earlier this year, building anticipation for the second season. Set to premiere in October, this season promises 12 thrilling episodes, with the main staff returning at the studio Nexus.
And here’s the best part for fans around the world: HIDIVE will be streaming the anime with both English subtitles and an English dub. If you’ve been eagerly awaiting the next chapter of this hilarious series, be ready because it’s just around the corner.
In this story, we follow the adventures of Cid Kagenou, a guy who’s convinced that he’s the mastermind behind the scenes, the puppeteer pulling all the strings. The catch? He’s not actually a hero or a villain; he’s just an ordinary guy with a wild imagination. But that doesn’t stop him from pretending to be a shadowy figure who controls everything.

The Eminence in Shadow S2 Releases in October
The anime is directed by Kazuya Nakanishi and produced by studio Nexus. Makoto Iino is adapting Tōzai’s original character designs, Kanichi Katou writes the scripts and Kenichiro Suehiro composes the music.
Yen Press secured the rights to both the light novels and the manga adaptation of The Eminence in Shadow. The story was initially serialized on the “Shōsetsuka ni Narō” website by Aizawa in 2018 and found its way into physical volumes published by Kadokawa, featuring art by Tōzai, starting with the first volume in November 2018.
Anri Sakano released the manga adaptation, which made its debut in Kadokawa’s Comp Ace magazine in December 2018. Additionally, a spinoff manga titled “Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! Shadow Gaiden” (The Eminence in Shadow- Shadow Side Story) was launched by Seta U in Comp Ace in July 2019.
Fans of the series were also treated to “The Eminence in Shadow: Master of Garden” game, which made its debut on iOS, Android, and PC platforms in November 2022. Crunchyroll Games took charge of releasing the game in English.
The Plot
Some people just aren’t cut out for the flashy hero or villain gig with all the dramatic flair. Cid, on the other hand, prefers the shadows, where wit and cleverness dominate. When he’s unexpectedly transported to another world (isekai’d), he seizes the chance to become the mastermind he’s always imagined.
Cid weaves a web of deception and finds himself at the top of the clandestine Shadow Garden organization, battling a cult (that he completely made up). Little did he know, his wild fantasies collided with reality as the very cult he fabricated turned out to be all too real, and they were none too pleased with his meddling in their sinister affairs.
As Cid makes everything up just to seem cool and edgy, readers and viewers are treated to a rollercoaster of witty banter, hilarious mishaps, and epic situations. The story’s casual tone allows us to connect with Cid and his eclectic group of women, making us feel like we’re part of their world.
From the very first episode, you’re hooked. You’ll find yourself laughing at the absurdity but you’ll be unable to stop watching The Eminence in Shadow. A part of “trashy isekai,” you’ll definitely enjoy this series if you’re an isekai fan.
