At the Connect 5 conference, Oculus revealed its much-anticipated Oculus Quest, a stand-alone virtual reality headset, and according to the latest reports, this VR headset doesn’t require tethering to a high configured PC, and thus it is expected to revolutionize the VR world. As it is mentioned, Oculus Quest is a stand-alone VR headset which will allow you to enjoy your content without the need of any other PC or other Oculus equipment. It also features 6 degrees of freedom inside-out tracking.
With Oculus Quest you can do all the movements which Oculus Go provided as you can move your head in any direction to see the same in the VR world, however, the tracking mechanism used in the Quest is different than that of Go and according to the reports, Quest’s uses Oculus Insight, a new inside-out tracking mechanism. The sensors are provided in the faceplate itself which will do the tracking and save you the hassle to set up external sensors in your room.
With it, you’ll also get new controllers which have been upgraded from the previous version which came along with Rift. Powering the device is Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and reports say that its performance is superior to that of Go but, will fall short if compared to Rift.
The cost of Oculus Quest is $399. The specific update is yet to be revealed. However, it has been confirmed that Oculus Rift will be available in the market in the spring of 2019.
