Season 2 of The Rain was given a green light by Netflix a long time ago, in 2018 to be precise. Back in May of 2019, it was reported that The Rain would go into production in the fall of 2019. Netflix’s first Danish original series. The second season was supposed to be launched in 2019. But is that so after all? Today we’ll talk about the progress on the Danish series, i.e., The Rain.
For those of you who don’t know, The Rain is the first Danish original series on Netflix. After Season 1 wrapped up and Season 2 announcement was made, Kelly Luegenbiehl, vice president of international originals for Netflix said she was excited to be teaming with the talented cast and creators for another Season of The Rain. She cited the international success of Season 1 to prove that strong stories indeed transcended borders. The Rain, according to her has a relatable and human story at its core and touches on universal themes everyone can identify with.
The Rain is created by Jannik Tai Mosholt, Esben Toft Jacobsen, and Christian Potalivo. The star cast includes Alba August, Mikkel Boe Følsgaard, Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen, Lars Simonsen, Sonny Lindberg, Jessica Dinnage, Lukas Løkken, and Johannes Kuhnke
It sort of deals with a post-apocalyptic Scandinavia, where a brutal virus carried by the rain wipes out almost all humans. It is a year later than two Danish siblings emerge from the safety of their bunker to find everything wiped out. They then join a team of survivors as young as them to set out on a quest in Scandinavia, searching for any sign of life.
Nothing concrete has been provided about theof The Rain by Netflix. Except for last year, on May 30, its renewal was announced that it was mentioned that it would roll into production soon. The Rain proved to be a hit in the US, UK, Brazil, France, and Germany, as well as its native Denmark. On May 4, 2018, Season 1 released on Netflix. Judging by the current progress on The Rain, I don’t think May 2019 is suitable to update. Season 1 started production in June 2017, so if Season 2 began production last year, it might land in late 2019. For now, let’s just wait on the officialannouncement by Netflix itself.
As for the cast, Simone (Alba August), Rasmus (Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen), Martin (Mikkel Følsgaard), Patrick (Lukas Løkken), Lea (Jessica Dinnage) and Jean (Sonny Lindberg) will all be back. I am doubtful of Beatrice’s (Angela Bundalovic) character. She was wiped out in Season 1. I am sure of Dr. Frederik Anderson (Lars Simonsen) and Sten (Johannes Kuhnke) making a comeback in Season 2 again. More as we have it.
