The highly anticipated anime adaptation of Kuji Furumiya’s ‘Unnamed Memory’ light novel series, as announced on the official website, has unfortunately been delayed from its original release this year to 2024 due to unforeseen “production circumstances.”
But, fans can still look forward to exciting updates during the “Dengeki Bunko 30th Natsu no Saiten Online 2023 powered by ABEMA” event on July 16, where a brand new promotional video and visual for the anime will be unveiled, keeping the anticipation alive for this upcoming series.
From the creative mind that brought you “Babel” and “A Pale Moon Reverie,” Furumiya brings us “Unnamed Memory,” a tale set to push the boundaries of fantasy storytelling. Prepare to be mesmerized by a symphony of scenic visuals, a gripping plot, and compelling characters.
As you delve into this fantasy universe, you’ll find yourself on a journey alongside our cursed protagonist, whose life is forever changed when a Witch wrote in his fate the inability to sire an heir. Are you for this fantasy tale? Because we are.
Unnamed Memory – What We Know
Unnamed Memory, penned by Kuji Furumiya, initially debuted as a web novel on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō novel website in 2012. It then caught the attention of ASCII Media Works, who acquired the series and published it under their Dengeki no Shin Bungei imprint, with illustrations by Chibi. The light novel collected six volumes and ended in 2021.
Not stopping at the original series, an exciting sequel titled ‘Unnamed Memory: After the End’ began in 2022. A manga adaptation, illustrated by Naoki Koshimizu, started serialization in Dengeki Daioh magazine in 2020. The manga has been compiled into four volumes as of January 2023.
Kazuya Miura is directing the anime with ENGI as the producer. Deko Akao is in charge of the series composition, Chika Nōmi designs the characters, taking inspiration from the original character designs, and Akito Matsuda composes the music.
The cast includes Yoshiki Nakajima voicing Oscar and Atsumi Tanezaki voicing Tinasha.
The Plot of the Series
In a world where witches use their extraordinary powers to wreak havoc, Oscar, the crown prince of the Kingdom of Farsas, carries a burdensome curse that prevents him from having an heir. Determined to break the spell, he makes it a must to find Tinasha, the most powerful witch in the entire continent.
The catch? She will only grant wishes to whoever can climb her tower but worry not as Oscar reaches the top. However, instead of seeking a solution to his curse, he asks Tinasha to become his bride. What will follow next?
This fantastical tale has all the elements that fantasy lovers crave and then some. With grand kingdoms, intricate political landscapes, endearing characters, a carefully crafted magic system, and breathtaking battles, it goes above and beyond the generic tropes often seen in light novels.
Kuji Furumiya, the mastermind behind this narrative, guides readers on an unpredictable journey like it’s a Sunday stroll. Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, Furumiya throws in unexpected twists and turns, constantly keeping you guessing what happens next. Some moments will have you simultaneously crying and laughing, as the author’s impressive sense of humor shines through.
The characters of Oscar and Tinasha are very well-developed. Oscar isn’t like the other main characters. He shows genuine interest in the progress of his kingdom and, Tinasha has a powerful aura, but she’s unable to captivate the Prince. Unnamed Memory is written with a lot of care, details and love; we’re sure the anime will be a great watch if it keeps the same theme as the manga.
