HiDive said on Tuesday that they would begin streaming Toka Gettan: The Moonlight Lady Returns later this month, with the series beginning on the 27th of December, 2022.
The series, which has been recently released in its entirety by Sentai Filmworks, will see two episodes uploaded to HiDive every Tuesday, with the first two episodes premiering on Tuesday, 27th of December at noon EST. The series includes 26 episodes in all, so fans who want to watch or revisit the anime should be able to do so long into the coming year.
Toka Gettan: The Moonlight Lady Returns, which debuted in 2007, is inspired by the adult graphic novel Toka Gettan, which also got a manga adaptation in 2005 that lasted for two books before closing in 2008. In 2009, the franchise released a PlayStation 2 game.
The series synopsis says that When Toka Kamiazuma found his body harbors Sekiken, a fabled stone sword, he inherited his clan’s obligation to defend the mystical country of Kamitsumihara, but his connection to the place only increases when he meets the curiously interesting Momoka Kawakabe. Inexplicably linked to one another, Toka and Momoka are soon lured into a web of dark secrets and old catastrophes that will bring a historical legend to reality and permanently alter the appearance of Kamitsumihara.
About Tōka Gettan
Voiced by Maria Ise in the Anime. Tōka is the series’ protagonist and Yumiko Kamiazuma’s adopted child. Within his chest lurks a mystical, spirit-eating blade known as the Stone Sword. Some say he is the rebirth of Isamihiko, the last Stone Sword wielder. In actuality, he is a non-human substitute for Yumiko’s lost daughter, also named Tōka, and the Stone Sword is an integrated component of his body because he was born with it.
In the series, Tōka has two appearances. He has long hair and wears a red kimono as Yumiko’s daughter, while he generally has shorter hair and wears a simple black shirt and pants or a school uniform. Regardless of his physical appearance, his disposition is always rude, callous, and short-tempered. His adoptive mother, Yumiko, and Momoka appear to be the only ones he cares about. Despite his feelings for Momoka, he intends to break the curse, regardless of the cost.
About Momoka
Voiced by Saori Hayami in the Anime. Momoka is the female protagonist who takes on the role of the goddess Sei. Her most notable trait is her insatiable appetite, as she is frequently seen with food in her mouth; she is also comparable to a puppy in her ability to capture food in her mouth. She is madly in love with Tōka and has a cheerful personality in contrast to Tka’s dismal demeanor.
It is later revealed that she, as Sei, was the person who assassinated Isamihiko, the previous wielder of the Sword Stone. It is revealed at the conclusion that she is a figure created in Yumiko’s story, and so she can only exist as Momoka within the Land of Kamitsumihara.
Furthermore, as a goddess, she is required to break the curse, yet doing so would cause her to vanish together with her sisters and other goddesses. Still, she is prepared to assist Touka and tells him that if they ever connect again, she will not be reluctant to make their love a reality.
About Suzuna Kuraki
Voiced by Sanae Kobayashi and Hiroko Taguchi in the Japanese anime. Suzuna Kuraki, a regular high school girl, is the series’ protagonist. She is a delicate, lovely young woman studying to become a Shinto priestess to correctly dedicate her family shrine, a job typically granted to ladies of her lineage.
Suzuna typically behaves in an aristocratic, pompous, and meticulous manner outside of her religious services, even though she is the most nervous and attentive individual in the house. Suzuna is Koichi Hayama’s arranged-marriage fiancée, Mizuna’s sister, and Yuriko’s daughter.
