James Cameron’s Avatar franchise has finally picked up the pace, and from the latest updates, everything is going pretty smoothly. Arguably the biggest blockbuster movie of the last decade, Avatar, will receive two more installments, as per the current plan, and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us. Released a decade ago, Avatar became the first to stack up over $2 billion and became the highest-grossing movie of all time (recently lost the title to Avengers: Endgame).
James Cameron revealed that Avatar 2 had completed its filming despite getting delayed, and Avatar 3 is about ‘95%’ complete. We have gone the confirmation straight from the interview between James Cameroon and Arnold Schwarzenegger for the 2020 Austrian World Summit.
The two had an insightful discussion on global climate change, technology changes, and the current issues; however, Cameron didn’t shy away from spilling the beans on his recent progress.
Avatar 2 Update:

James said that just like everybody, they were severely affected by the pandemic, and because of it, they were already behind in their schedule. They have lost ‘about four and a half months of production,’ which compelled them to push back its update one year later.
Luckily for fans, Cameron assured that they wouldn’t waste any time further, and will immediately resume work on Avatar 3 the day they release the second film in the franchise. Currently, the team is in New Zealand, and if Cameron is to be believed, they have only about 10% of the remainder of the film left to shoot.
He added that ‘We’re [100%] complete on Avatar 2, and we’re sort of 95% complete on Avatar 3.’
New Zealand has been an excellent location for them so far, and because of the less number of cases, they have been able to operate and do their work efficiently.
Earlier, the official Twitter handle shared the cast members’ pictures as they prepared to travel to Hawaii for shooting. According to the post, their main objective was to prepare the cast by allowing them to ‘experience the underwater world.’ You can check the picture below.

A separate Tweet teased the fans with the pictures of Sigourney Weaver in an underwater stunt, and fans were hyped up to see her in action. It’s pretty obvious here that the team is going all out, and given the reveals here and there, we certainly do have a lot more to come in the upcoming days.

Avatar 2 Cast:
Despite all this, we acknowledge that the pandemic has hit the industry with a massive blow. As a result, both Avatar 2 and 3 received several delays; however, we hope that 2022 remains the official window for release as announced earlier.
Joining Avatar 2 will be Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, and Zoe Saldana. Avatar 2 is currently slated for release on 16th December 2022. The series will receive two more sequels beyond part 3, and they will probably release in the fall of 2026 and fall of 2028. For now, you can revisit the first movie on Amazon Prime or Disney+.
