Doctor Sleep is a 2019 film based on a novel of the same name which was written by Stephen King. It is a sequel to King’s 1977 novel The Shining. The film also serves as a sequel to the film adaptation of The Shining. It has been directed by Stanley Kubrick and the film takes place several decades after the events of the original and combines elements of the 1977 novel as well. The development of the movie began right after Doctor Sleep was published in 2013.

Writer-producer Akiva Goldsman wrote a script, but unfortunately, the studio did not secure a budget for the film until the success of its 2017 horror film It, is also based on a novel by King. Doctor Sleep is written, directed, as well as edited by Mike Flanagan. The cast of the movie consists of Ewan McGregor as Dan Torrance, Rebecca Ferguson as Rose the Hat, Kyliegh Curran as Abra Stone, Cliff Curtis as Billy Freeman, Carl Lumbly as Dick Hallorann, Zahn McClarnon as Crow Daddy, Emily Alyn Lind as Snakebite Andi, Bruce Greenwood as Dr. John Dalton, Jocelin Donahue as Lucy Stone, Alex Essoe as Wendy Torrance.

As for the plot, the official synopsis reads: Struggling with alcoholism, Dan Torrance remains traumatized by the sinister events that occurred at the Overlook Hotel when he was a child. His hope for a peaceful existence soon becomes shattered when he meets Abra, a teen who shares his extrasensory gift of the “shine.” Together, they form an unlikely alliance to battle the ns True Knot, a cult whose members try to feed off the shine of innocents to become immortal.”

Doctor Sleep DVD Release Date

The reception of the movie was pretty good and it was praised by many critics. Many people have already watched it and want to watch it again. Well, fans of the movie don’t have to wait long for the DVD as the release date for it has been revealed, Doctor Sleep DVD and Blu-ray release date is set for 4 February 2020. The Digital HD will be available from Amazon Video and iTunes on 21 January 2020.
