The Demon King land on top of the water looking at the island nearby where Dai is training. He shouts ”So that is the island” he said that looking at it and it is sealed with a protective pell. Meanwhile Dai and Brass witness master Avan transforming into a dragon. Brass said that Avan is using an ancient mythical attack spell and the Dragon said that Dragons are the most powerful among all monsters. It reals that only a hero can fight one and defeat it.
The dragon asks Dai top clash with it since it will be the last part of the training. This is for preparing Dai to take down the Demon King that has just awakened. Dai started fighting with Dai make it difficult for him to win the battle easily. Dai decides to use Avan Style Sword Technique Earth Slash and the dragon spit fire at him. It burns him telling him that he cannot win the fight with that brute force meanwhile Popp is training in the forest. Gomechan went to him a try to tell him something.

Preview Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai Episode 4
Since Gomechan talks in a weird language, he shows Popp with a gesture that Avan has turned into a dragon. Popp rushes quickly to where they are fighting. He is worried that Dai might not be able to stop Avan in a form of a dragon. Brass tried to tell Dai that he has trained enough and he refuses to give up without stopping Avan. Dai remembers that the technique that can beat the dragon is wave slash and he unleashed it. The dragon fires the flames at Dai who sliced the flames into half and Popp shows up witnessing the surprise.
Since Dai manages to complete his task the dragon transforms back into normal Avan. Popp tells Avan that he must not use Puff for training again since it stings him after using it. Avan reveals that Earth Slash is a strong attack and Wave Slash is a speed attack. With the combination of those Dai can overcome anything. Avan keeps on touching his nose saying that it sting and Popp suggested that he cool it with a light crack spell. Dai unleashed a spell saying crack and Avan took a crystal from the spell and use it to cure his nose.
Later Dai and others started to feel evil energy and Avan notice that it is the demon king. The Demon King manages to infiltrate the magic circle that is protecting the island. He landed on the ground and Avan reveals that it is the demon king Hadler. Halder reveals that Avan was the previous Hero. Dai and others are just shocked to hear that and knowing that Avan had a fight with Hadler in the past and defeated Hadler.
Hadler told Avan that he will pay for the pain and humiliation he has caused him in the past. They both started fighting and Avan is worn down. While Avan is on his knees Hadlar reveals that there is someone powerful that him he is lord Vearan. Vearan is the one that resurrected Hadlar who said that he serves Vearan.
Hadler has come back with more power that Avan can’t even beat him. He beats everyone including Dai and decided that the student of Avan has to die. Hadler fires a powerful blow that will finish Dai and Popp in a second Avan jump in front of the attack saving his students. Dai yells the name of his master Avan when he collapses after the attack.
