Here is a list of the top 50 most anticipated movies that are scheduled to release in 2021.
1.The Last Duel (October 15, 2021)
Inspired by Eric Jager’s book named, ‘The Last Duel: A True Story of Trial by Combat in Medieval France,’ the upcoming movie is set in the 14th century in France, centering two best friends, Jacques Le Gris and Jean de Carrouges, who are ordered to fight each other till death rescue one of them when the latter blame Le Gris for sexually molesting his wife. Directed by Ridley Scott, the upcoming movie will be featuring Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Jodie Comer, and Adam Driver in lead roles.
2.Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway (January 15, 2021)
Inspired by Beatrix Potter’s stories, the movie is a direct sequel to ‘Peter Rabbit,’ where once again we can witness the cheeky rabbit bringing in all types of PG-rated trouble. Peter ventures out from the garden and finally finds a land where people appreciate him for being mischievous. However, Peter needs to figure out what type of bunny he desires when his family comes looking for him, risking everything. 3.Cinderella (February 5, 2021)
Directed by Kay Cannon, the movie casts Camila Cabello as Cinderella, with Billy Porter and Idina Menzel in notable roles. Well, we might not need another Cinderella movie. Still, the classic story in the form of a musical rom-com with Idina Menzel and Camila Cabello’s vocals is what we can look forward to watching. The movie will be released on IMAX, RealD 3D, and on Dolby Cinema on the above-mentioned date.
4.Ghostbusters: Afterlife (March 5, 2021)
The upcoming movie casts Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Paul Rudd, and Mckenna Grace in major roles, with Jason Reitman serving as the director. The movie is the fourth overall installment in the Ghostbusters series and the direct sequel to 1984’s Ghostbusters and 1989’s Ghostbusters II. The movie has been set thirty years after Ghostbusters II, in which a family relocates to a small city, where they come to know how they bear a connection to their grandfather’s secret legacy, as well as the original Ghostbusters. Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace will feature as siblings, with Carrie Coon serving as their single mother and Paul Rudd in an undisclosed role.
5.Coming 2 America (March 5, 2021)
The second movie in the overall film series of ‘Coming to America,’ and a direct sequel to the original film. The movie has picked up the storyline from where it left, with Prince Akeem Joffer being ready to become the lawful King of Zamunda. However, he comes to know that he has a son in America about whom he had no idea. To fulfill his father’s last wish, according to which that son should be crowned as the King, Akeem and Semmi set off on a journey to America once again to look for him. Starring Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, John Amos, Garcelle Beauvais, James Earl Jones, and Wesley Snipes in major roles, the movie has been directed by Craig Brewer.
6.Raya and the Last Dragon (March 5, 2021)
The upcoming animated adventure fantasy movie casts Awkwafina and Cassie Steele as the main characters’ voice actors. A young fighter embarks on a quest to a fantastic world to find out the last dragon. Directed by Paul Briggs and Dean Wellins, the movie will premiere theatrically and on Disney+ on the same day. It was originally scheduled to release in November 2020 but was postponed to March concerning the COVID-19 outbreak.
7.Masters of the Universe (2021)
Directed by Adam and Aaron Nee, the movie was first scheduled to release in March 2021, but in January this year, it was pulled off. Although the 1987 cult film did not do wonders at the box office, the reboot seems to bring all the necessary goodness which the parent movie lacked. Nothing much has been revealed about the movie; however, Prince Adam or He-Man’s character would be played by Noah Centineo. Other cast members are yet to be announced.
8.Tom & Jerry (February 26, 2021)
What else can be better than our animated classic television show getting a big-screen update as a live-action and animated hybrid! After parting ways from each other, Jerry finds a hotel to reside in, whose manager recruits Tom to catch him to prevent the former’s problems. However, when they need to confront a bigger threat, they keep their old rivalry and work together. Directed by Tim Story, the movie casts Chloë Grace Moretz, Michael Peña, Colin Jost, Ken Jeong, and Rob Delaney in major roles.
9.The King’s Man (March 12, 2021)
Directed by Matthew Vaughn, the movie will be the prequel and the third installment of the Kingsman series. Set in the early 1900s, the spectators will witness the parent movie’s background, diving deeper into the story. The movie consists of an assemble cast including Harris Dickinson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Matthew Goode, Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, Djimon Hounsou, Gemma Arterton, Charles Dance, and Daniel Brühl, where a group of former soldiers creates the spy agency led by the character of Ralph Fiennes.
10.The Many Saints of Newark (March 12, 2021)
While we all had been unsatisfied with the anti-climactic end of ‘The Sopranos,’ the news of the movie having an existence came around. Although we no longer have the late James Gandolfini with us to portray Tony Soprano’s role for us, the role has been passed on to his son, Michael. Directed by Alan Taylor, the movie stars Michael Gandolfini, Vera Farmiga, Billy Magnussen, Jon Bernthal, Ray Liotta, Alessandro Nivola, and Corey Stoll roles. The movie is going to be a prequel to David Chase’s HBO crime drama television series.
11.Morbius (March 19, 2021)
The upcoming superhero movie has been inspired by a character from the Marvel Comics, bearing the same name, Morbius. The movie features a scientist named Michael Morbius, who happens to suffer from a rare blood ailment, and to cure his disease, he tests a risky cure that counter-attacks on him, afflicting him with a type of vampirism. It was originally scheduled for a 2020 release but was postponed along with other MCU movies. Directed by Daniel Espinosa, the movie features Jared Leto as Michael Morbius, Jared Harris as his mentor, Matt Smith as Loxias Crown, Adria Arjona as Martine Bancroft, and Tyrese Gibson as Simon Stroud in notable roles.
12.Tomb Raider 2 (March 19, 2021)
The movie is directed by Ben Wheatley, the second installment in the franchise, loosely inspired by the 2013 reboot game, titled, ‘Tomb Raider.’ It features the Oscar-winning actress Alicia Vikander, who will be seen reprising her role as the action heroine, Lara Croft, and Kristin Scott Thomas, who will be seen as Ana Miller. The movie has not disclosed many details about the plot, but Amy Jump has done the screenplay.

Set after the last movie’s events, Dominic Toretto will have to confront his younger brother, Jakob, a dangerous assassin, who has shaken his hands with their old rival, Cipher. The movie marks Vin Diesel’s return as Dominic Toretto, along with Michelle Rodriguez as Letty Ortiz, Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce, Chris Bridges as Tej Parker, John Cena as Jakob Toretto, Charlize Theron as Cipher, and others in important roles.
15.No Time To Die (April 2021)

Directed by Kirk DeMicco, the upcoming movie will be an animated musical movie, inspired by the original idea of Peter Barsocchini, along with Lin-Manuel Miranda serving as the songwriter. The story is about a Kinkajou, passionate for adventure and music, who strives hard to move from Havana, in Cuba to Miami, in Florida, in the hopes of fulfilling his dreams. The voice cast is yet to be revealed by the movie makers.

Miguel Sapochnik has directed the upcoming science-fiction drama, with Tom Hanks as Finch, Caleb Landry Jones as Jeff, Samira Wiley as Weaver, Skeet Ulrich, and Laura Harrier in important roles. The story revolves around an ailing inventor, Finch, the last man left on the Earth, post an apocalypse, who creates a robot for accompanying him and his dog while he is still alive and to protect the dog after his death.
18.A Quiet Place Part II (April 23, 2021)
Directed and written by John Krasinski, the upcoming American horror film serves as a sequel to the 2018 movie, ‘A Quiet Place’ with Emily Blunt, the real-life wife of John Krasinski, cast as Evelyn Abbott, the protagonist of the story. The movie was supposed to come out in late 2020 but has to get delayed for a few months after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox. Set in a world where bots are the best friends of children, this animated adventurous movie revolves around a young boy who comes to know that his own robot friend’s work is different from that of the other bots.
21.Black Widow (May 7, 2021)
The movie, directed by Cate Shortland, stars Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh, Rachel Weisz, and David Harbour in major roles. Inspired by the Marvel character, Black Widow, created by Stan Lee, Don Heck, and Don Rico, the movie will be the first from the MCU’s Phase 4, a prequel revolving around the character Natasha Romanoff. The story will focus on how she managed to defy all the obstacles relating to her past, along with her identity as a spy and the relationships she had engaged herself.
22.Free Guy (May 21, 2021)
Originally scheduled to release in December 2020, the Sci-Fi action comedy stars Ryan Reynolds, Taika Waititi, Lel Rel Howery, Jody Comer, and Joe Keery in major roles. Directed by Shawn Levy, the movie is set under an open-world video game, revolving around a nondescript bank teller, with the identity of the non-player character (NPC), Guy. The upcoming movie will be the fourth movie in Legendary’s MonsterVerse franchise, and the fourth installment of Godzilla, under a Hollywood studio. 24.Spiral (May 21, 2021)
Almost a year later, the movie, directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, is finally released in the theatres. 34.The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard (August 20, 2021)
Directed by Patrick Hughes, the upcoming movie will serve as a sequel to the 2017 movie titled ‘The Hitman’s Bodyguard.’ Although the first movie performed moderately at the box office, it has received a sequel, so we can expect it to be satisfyingly good this time. Directed by Peter Jackson, the movie will signify the friendship that still existed among the different band members and nullify the assertions made by people that the album wasn’t made on good terms.

Inspired by Agatha Christie’s novel, going by the same name, the upcoming movie will be a mystery thriller, directed by Kenneth Branagh. The movie is a sequel to the 2917 movie, ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ and marks the return of Branagh, along with Tom Bateman. The tranquility and peace prevailing on the S.S. This upcoming movie will be the first one from the two already planned adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel bearing the same name. The storyline revolves around Paul Atreides, the heir of a famous family living on a deserted planet known as Arrakis or Dune. When the evil forces come attacking the family members, Paul will be confronting them with courage.
39.Uncharted (October 8, 2021)
Adapted from the same name’s video game series, the upcoming action-adventure will be directed by Ruben Fleischer, starring Tom Holland as Nathan Drake, Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan in lead roles, along with Antonio Banderas, Tati Gabrielle, and Sophia Taylor Ali in assisting roles. The movie has gone through a long pre-production stage for almost a decade, and now finally, we will watch it on the big screen. Sony has not revealed anything about the movie’s plotline; however, it seems like it will follow the games closely.

Directed by Robert Schwentke, the forthcoming superhero film movie casts Henry Golding, Iko Uwais, and Samara Weaving. A spin-off of the G.I. Joe movie franchise, the movie is inspired by the character Snake Eyes, created by Hasbro. According to the sources, the film will be an origin story for the titular character, a mute ninja, played by Ray Park in the G.I. Joe movie series. There are many things that people find mysterious about Snake Eyes— those questions will probably be resolved in the upcoming prequel.
42.Spider-Man: Far From Home Sequel (Untitled) (November 5, 2021)
Inspired by the Marvel Comics character, played by Tom Holland, the upcoming movie will be a sequel to the 2019 movie ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home,’ whose title is yet to be announced. Directed by Jon Watts, the movie will mark the third installment in MCU’s Spider-Man series, featuring Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jamie Foxx, and Alfred Molina in important roles. Directed by Garth Jennings, the movie was initially set for Christmas 2020 release, but after facing some delays, it will now be arriving in December next year. The upcoming animated musical comedy will serve as a sequel to the 2016 movie titled ‘Sing,’ and mark Matthew McConaughey, Scarlett Johansson, Reese Witherspoon, Nick Kroll, Tori Kelly, and Taron Egerton from the first film. Idina Menzel and Selena Gomez have been added to the cast list.
48.Escape Room 2 (TBA, 2021)
Directed by Adam Robitel, the upcoming psychological horror movie casts Taylor Russell as Zoey Davis and Logan Miller as Ben Miller in lead roles, alongside Isabelle Fuhrman, Holland Roden, Thomas Cocquerel, Indya Moore, and Carlito Olivero in notable roles. In the series, the first movie, ‘Escape Room,’ which came out in 2018, has performed well at the box office. So we can expect something good coming from the movie markers. However, we are yet to learn about the storyline of the upcoming movie.
49.West Side Story (December 10, 2021)
Directed by Steven Spielberg, the upcoming romantic musical drama movie will serve as the new adaptation to Broadway musical going by the same name. Starring Ansel Elgort and Rachel Zegler as the leading characters, the movie also features Ariana DeBose, David Alvarez, Brian d’Arcy James, Mike Faist, Corey Stoll Rita Moreno in notable roles. The movie is basically going to be a different take on Shakespeare’s popular play, ‘Romeo and Juliet.’ Set in the 1950s, two teens in New York City belong to rival families and fall for each other.
50.Antlers (TBA, 2021)
Directed by Scott Copper, the movie is a supernatural thriller revolving around a small-town teacher, Julia Meadows, and her sheriff brother, Paul, who gets concerned about Lucas’s student Weaver, who seems to be hiding a supernatural creature inside the attic of his house. The movie casts Keri Russell, Jesse Plemons, Graham Greene, and Jeremy T. Thomas in major roles.
