Venom was a massive success for Sony despite the reviews, it wasn’t a surprise to anyone that Venom 2 was on the way. Even before the first movie was released, the cast was already talking about the sequel but they clam up immediately after telling those confirmations. The movie surpassed the likes of Guardians of the Galaxy and Deadpool 2 at the box office, a sequel was all but guaranteed.
Venom 2 update
Sony is bringing back the original movie’s co-writer which is Kelly Marcel back to write the screenplay and executive produce. In the first movie, we didn’t get any Spiderman Cameo but it was hinted by the director that they could be a Spider-Man crossover in Venom 2. Ruben Fleischer said during the first film, before teasing “This feels very much like Venom’s movie. It’s the introduction of the character,” He further added, “As to where it will go in future movies, and who he’ll run across, I can’t say.”
Andy Serkis, Venom 2’s new director said that the movie will be “an extraordinary piece of cinema” but didn’t reveal much about the plot. In an interview with IGN, he said “I can’t tell you any ideas right now. I’m in the beginning stages, but I have some very clear ideas about what I want to see visually, and how we can take the characters to another dimension.”
At the end of the movie, Venom’s offspring Carnage was shown. But even though Carnage will be in the movie won’t make it R-rated, according to producer Avi Arad. “When you hear Carnage, the only thing you can think of is R. But, if you know his story, if you really know the comic, there’s no R here,” he told Collider. He further added that “He’s a tortured soul. It’s not about what he does, because we never have to show the knife going from here to there, and the blood is pouring. What you have to show is, what is the motivation?”
As for cast Tom Hardy would be back as Eddie Brock and his alien alter ego. Michelle Williams, who stars as Eddie Brock’s ex-wife Anne Weying, will also return this was confirmed her. There is another person joining the cast which is Woody Harrelson, who was revealed in Venom’s mid-credits scene to be playing the serial killer Cletus Kasady – aka Carnage. Venom 2 doesn’t have a update yet but there is an “Untitled Sony/Marvel Sequel’ scheduled for October 2, 2020, so we can only assume that will be Venom 2, with the sequel preceded on 31 July 2020.
