After the cancellation of Victoria’s Secret fashion show was announced, everyone has asked one question, ” Why did the fashion show got canceled? ” It is awkward because the show was never canceled, except in 2004, since it first aired in 2001.
Eighteen long years after its debut, the show will not be telecasted on any network in 2019. It clearly means that fans will miss all the gorgeous ramp walks of the most beautiful models, along with music’s top talent.
The real reason
The reason was explained by L Brands’ CFO Stuart Burdoerfer, who said
“In terms of in a granular way, specifically as timing over the years shifted in terms of the airing of the fashion show, did we see specific material impact on short term sales response to the airing of the fashion show? As a general matter, the answer to that question is no. So if you’re like, ‘Oh my God, Stuart, are you freaked out about the day after the fashion show result and what’s going to happen,’ it did air at different times over the years and we didn’t see a material impact on the next few days’ results.”
In plain words, the main reason for the cancellation was that the show did not influence the sales so much. People who enjoyed the show would not necessarily buy the products. That is the main reason why Victoria secret’s interest faded in hosting the show.
The popularity of show vs. sales
Talking about the television level, Victoria’s Secret fashion show did not grab very high ratings. 2018’s show has 15 Million views on YouTube. However, there is less significant that the show caused an upliftment in sales.
We can conclude that the decision was pretty much done in a business mindset.
What can be said about the future?
We can also come to the conclusion that the viewers might grow fond of the show by missing it. Another question also lies that will Victoria secret fashion show again be hosted by CBS or ABS? Will the show return on a streaming service? Or maybe will it return at all? Well, time will tell, so stay tuned.
