HBO’s decision to follow The Young Pope up with The New Pope was revealed quite some time ago, and fans have been very excited for its release. As the title suggests, the follow-up series will have a completely new Pope, and it seems that HBO has finally confirmed that the Oscar-winning actor John Malkovich will be the star in the movie. We don’t know what exactly his role will be, but we expect to find out soon enough. In this post, we’ll be discussing all that we know about the movie so far. So, let’s begin.
Before we begin, I want to let you all know that this post will likely have spoilers from the previous movie, and maybe from the upcoming one too. If you don’t like being spoiled, I suggest that you stop reading the post here. However, if spoilers don’t bother you, we can continue. At the same time, note that we don’t create, or leak any of the spoilers that you find here. They can be found all over the internet.
So far, we haven’t got much information on The New Pope. HBO did release an image from the movie, but that’s about it. In the image, you can see Jude Law’s Pius XIII standing alongside the New Pope, who we know is played by John Malkovich.
Cast members from The Young Pope, namely Silvio Orlando, Javier Cámara, Ludivine Sagnier, Cécile de France, and Maurizio Lombardi will return. When it comes to the newcomers, we have John Malkovich, Mark Ivanir, Ulrich Thomsen, Henry Goodman and Massimo Ghini making their debut in the movie series.
As far as the update for the movie goes, we don’t know when it’ll premiere. All we know that HBO plans to release the movie at some point in 2019. We think a Fall 2019 date should work, but that’s just a guess. Take it with a grain of salt.
