The action monster movie that has just been released in China and Netherlands has received a lot of criticism during the last few days, and because of this, the movie has been forced to be pulled away from the movie theaters. The movie debuted in Netherlands on December 3, 2020, and on the very next day, that is December 4, 2020, it premiered in China as well. The movie received adverse response from the Chinese spectators owing to the presence of a racist comment inside it. The comment was mentioned by the character played by Jin Au-Yeung, the Asian-American rapper, mostly known by his stage name, MC Jin, who says:
“Look at my knees! What kind of knees are these? Chi-knees!”
Although the joke doesn’t make much sense and it is too much to consider it offending, the translations in Chinese has somehow managed to make it sound as an insult, upsetting the Chinese spectators. However, both the director of the movie, Paul W.S. Anderson as well as actor Jin Au-Yeung have apologized on their behalf regarding the comment stating that they did not intent to cause any offence towards anyone, and it was featured for entertainment purpose only. They have respectfully eliminated the comment from the movie in order not to spread anymore disrespect if it did earlier.
