At the moment, Jared Leto is buzzing with his upcoming multi-starring “The Little Things” and, for a surprise, cameo as his DC Extended Universe’s Joker in the highly anticipated Zack Snyder’s revised version of Justice League. But the same can’t be said about Jared Leto’s another project with Sony and Marvel titled “Morbius.” It’s been revealed that Morbius is delayed once again for seven months after it was set to come out in March this year. Sony had strong plans to create their own Universe of Marvel characters after the success of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spiderman and Sony’s own “Venom” performing great at the box office, and this led to the plans of making a movie on the popular vampire from the Marvel Comics “Morbius.”
Morbius is set to see Jared Leto in Dr. Michael Morbius’s titular character, who is on the verge of creating a cure for his blood disorder that results in him turning into a Vampire who can only survive by sucking on other people’s blood. After Venom’s commercial success, Sony is looking forward to Morbius as another scary origin story that may connect with the audience. Still, the Covid-19 seems to have another plan, and here we are discussing the revised date for Sony and Marvel’ Morbius and what to expect from it.
New update For Morbius
Sony earlier this morning has announced that they are delaying Morbius by seven months. Morbius, set to come out on March 19, 2021, is now revised and released on October 8, 2021. This is the second time the studios had to adjust delays as initially Morbius was set to release on 31st of July 2020, but the plans scrapped because of the Covid-19 outbreak, and the movie is just one of the many other movies and studios who had to change their plans because of the Pandemic.
We consider that Sony is trying not to risk it by releasing it in theatres quickly as we can see even big-budget movies that are getting a theatre release are struggling a lot to make an impact. Thus it might be the best strategy to wait instead of dropping the movie now or on a streaming service and release it when the situations are safer, and theaters start filling up again. Even Hollywood’s biggest, Tom Hanks, in a recent interview, said that though the streaming services have brought a new revolution, bigger franchise movies are meant for theatres only. So if Sony aims to create a big franchise of its own Marvel characters in front of the already well-established Marvel Cinematic Universe, waiting is the best they could do for now.

What To Expect?
It’s been almost a year now since we saw the very first trailer for Morbius, and with the further delays, let’s not expect new footage any time soon unless Sony plans to keep the fans invested with multiple teasings. But even for teasing, Morbius from the looks of the trailer seems like a completely origin-based story of the anti-hero, so we can’t actually expect much of big cameos from any of the Marvel characters under Sony.
Sony previously stated they’re bound to create a Sinister Six version from their universe, plus with Spider-man, Sony at the moment with Marvel Studios has only one movie and a team-up movie planned so far for the web-slinging hero. If rumors are to be believed, Spider-man is set to appear in Venom’s second installment, which is speculated to be in the same universe as Morbius. The question we are theorizing is whether Morbius is really part of the same universe and which Spider-man are we talking about after fans pointed out a poster in the Morbius’ trailer that picturizes Sam Raimi’s Spider-man portrayed by Tobey Maguire, which further raises questions to the multiverse that is set to take place in the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-man 3 and Doctor Strange: Multiverse Of Madness.
We firmly believe that with the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-man 3 if the multiverse is happening. Sony’s Spiderman characters that include Andrew Garfield’s version of Peter Parker and Emma Stone’s version of Gwen Stacy along with Sam Raimi’s Spiderman which includes Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker and Kirsten Dunst’s Marey Jane Watson are returning; the movies might have an impact on Morbius’s timeline in future.
So far, let’s not get into that much until we really see what Sony is looking to offer in the upcoming origin story of Morbius and what it will set for Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters. As we reported, the movie is set to release on the 8th of October, 2021, and will star Jared Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius along with Adria Arjona as Martine Bancroft and Doctor Strange’s Matt Smith in the role of villain Loxias Crown. The movie is directed by Daniel Espinosa, while Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless have handled the film’s writing.
