Very soon we’ll see Halle Bailey play Little Mermaid in the live-action movie. The news just arrived that the singer, who is one half of the musical duo, “Chloe X Halle,” has been landed the role of Ariel in Disney’s upcoming live-action movie of “The Little Mermaid.” Director Rob Marshall was all praise for Halle Bailey stating that after an extensive search, it became clear that Halle was the one for the role. She has a rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance, all combined with a glorious singing voice. These become intrinsic qualities which are necessary to play this iconic role of Little Mermaid, said, director Rob Marshall.
Little Mermaid is produced by John DeLuca, Marc Platt, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. It has been notified that it will feature all the iconic songs from the 1989 animated classic by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, and also songs by Menken and Miranda. The other casting news is that Melissa McCarthy has been cast as the villain, Ursula.
Shooting on Little Mermaid is expected to start from 2020. Little Mermaid has been scripted by David Magee; Jane Goldman had written the previous draft. The studio has been overseen by Jessica Virtue and Allison Erlikhman.
The premise of the original Little Mermaid movie 1989 is that it is an animated hit followed the premise that the mermaid princess Ariel falls in love with a human prince on land. The film’s original music has been written by Menken which includes the songs “Under the Sea,” “Part of Your World” and “Kiss the Girl.”
