Plot and Production History:
The chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, C.M. P.K.R., has passed away, and Brahma, also known as the Godfather, discovers that P.K.R’s son-in-law, Jaidev, has intentions of smuggling narcotics into Hyderabad. Brahma finds this unacceptable and stops Jaidev’s plans to get rid of him. The core of the narrative is how Brahma thwarts Jaidev’s scheme and exposes him. Who ultimately succeeds as the state’s Chief Minister is the subject of the remaining portions of the narrative.
Chiranjeevi will play the protagonist in the Telugu version of the 2019 Malayalam film Lucifer, which was confirmed in April 2020. Sujeeth, who had already begun writing the script for the Telugu translation, was chosen to lead the film. Due to artistic disputes, Sujeeth opted out of the project in September 2020. Later, V. V. Vinayak was asked to take his position. After a 20-year absence, Mohan Raja was reinstated as the film’s director in December 2020.
His only Telugu movie up to that point was Hanuman Junction (2001). The movie was formally introduced in Hyderabad in January 2021 after a customary pooja ritual. The movie is Chiranjeevi’s first collaboration with composer Thaman S. Nirav Shah was hired as the film’s cinematographer. Konidela Production Company and Super Good Films were slated to produce it. In August 2021, the title of the movie—Godfather—was made public.
The plot of The Godfather is designed to honor Chiranjeevi, one of South cinema’s biggest megastars and a figure who helped to build the business in its formative years. He is immediately established in the script as a man that not even the FBI would consider mistreating. So, when he starts the race wearing a well-pressed white kurta, some pricey sunglasses, and million-dollar flamboyance, you know this is the man who is expected to win, and, based on past performance, he will undoubtedly do so.
The creators’ current task is to come up with a narrative that not only supports the triumph of their already admired protagonist but also is entertaining and deserving of the whistles that a ticket buyer intends to blow. The creators of Godfather did attempt to add local politics, individuals betraying one another, and even more to make everything so complicated that the God they invented had to be on his toes to handle it. But everything, even with the biggest names, ends up looking like a preexisting plan.
Now, I’m not saying that this is a terrible movie that shouldn’t be viewed. If I were a fan of Chiranjeevi, I would have been flattered since the fanfare gets bigger every time he appears on the screen. But none of this is a surprise. The man has worked in the industry for a very long period, and filmmakers have already sufficiently worshipped him. Therefore, the staple routes are the issue. Additionally, the notion of having every other performer underplay their performance.
One can consider that the deed offers redemption. But as the film goes on, you simply wait for it to end because you know Chiranjeevi will survive the battle unscathed after defeating about 50 men. Yes, the celebrity never receives even a little scratch in more than three battle scenes.
In comparison to previous masala films, “Godfather” is a superior action drama. Something succeeds immensely when it stays loyal to the original, but when it starts deviating, it fails. It comes off as a bit weird as it strays from its original path or storyline. However, Chiranjeevi’s charm, flair, and some scenes make his admirers happy. Others will just consider it a passable watch. The viewers of “Lucifer” will find it challenging to enjoy this movie.
I would like to give it 7 points out of 10. Godfather is, all things considered, a superb political thriller with a coherent narrative. The primary positives in the movie are an older, wiser Chiranjeevi; excellent work from Satyadev and Nayanthara; and a funny Salman Khan cameo. Fans and the general public did have a fantastic time this Dussehra since the boss is back (even if there is a bit less drama than in the original Lucifer).
