Popular South Korean boy group, EXO’s member Chen, has announced that he is getting married. It was also reported that his fiancée is seven months pregnant, but SM Entertainment has since denied this. After his agency SM Entertainment released a statement about Chen’s engagement to a non-celebrity, the 27-year-old posted a picture of a handwritten letter for his fans confirming the news.
“Chen has met someone precious to him and will be getting married. The bride is a non-celebrity, and the wedding will be held privately with only their families in attendance,” SM Entertainment’s statement reads. The statement added that the wedding and everything related to it would be held privately, with only Chen and his fiancee’s family and friends in attendance. The statement asked fans and journalists to respect the couple’s privacy.
The agency then asked fans to send Chen “lots of blessings and messages of celebration.”
In his handwritten letter, Chen told fans about his fiancée, writing that he found a “blessing.”
Here is the translation of the adorable letter via Metro: “Hello, this is Chen. I am writing this because I have something to tell our fans. I don’t know how to start this, and I’m very nervous. Although these words are not enough, I’m writing this letter because I want to honestly tell our fans, who gave us so much love, first.”
Chen then reveals that he has a girlfriend that he wants to spend the rest of his life with. He also talked about being concerned and worried about sharing the news. He consulted his agency and fellow EXO members before announcing the news and decided to share it early so as not to surprise the world with suddenly getting married.
Chen, whose real name is Kim Jong-Dae, then adds that he got taken aback by the said blessing that came in his life, but it only gave him more strength. He further noted that he didn’t want to lose any more time thinking about how he’s going to make the announcement, and decided to go with it.
“I’m really thankful for my members for genuinely congratulating me after hearing this news, and I deeply thank our fans for sending me so much undeserving love.” Chen then thanked his members and fans in the closing lines of the letter and expressed deep gratitude.
The report of Chen’s fiancée being pregnant comes from Sporbiz. A source from SM Entertainment reportedly told the outlet that “Chen’s bride-to-be is pregnant.” The agency later informed that the report about Chen’s girlfriend being pregnant is false.
Chen debuted in 2012 as a member of EXO and its subgroup EXO-M. Besides being the main vocalist of the group, Chen has also lent his voice for multiple television drama OSTs. Chen made his solo debut with his extended play April and a Flower in 2019, which reached the number 2 position on Korea’s Gaon Album Chart. He went on to release Dear My Dear in October, which peaked at number one upon release.
We congratulate Chen for finding love, and we send the couple nothing but best wishes!
