Avengers Endgame released on April 26, 2019, in cinema all across the world. The movie lived up to every bit of the expectation that we had from it. But the slight twist, in the end, had many fans furious. It must be remembered that 21 whole movies, spanning over 12 years led to Avengers Endgame. Endgame, on the whole, is loved by one and all, it has a rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The end twist that I am talking about is, Thor’s fatphobia at the end. Fans were furious about the same. The audiences and fans didn’t well receive Marvel’s rampant fatphobia expressed their anger on Twitter. The thing is, in the wake of the Avengers’ failure to reverse the snap at the beginning of Endgame, Thor appears most disheartened of all. Five years later, he’s seen as a recluse. He’s discovered by Rocket and Professor Hulk who find him drunk, fat, unshaven and hair unkempt. Thor’s physical appearance was torn down by fans on the micro-blogging site. Here are some of the tweets:
“@Russo_Brothers @chrishemsworth and @Disney should be ashamed of themselves for the portrayal of Thor in Avengers Endgame.”
The other one read something like:
“What could have been a wonderful story arc about failure, mental health, self-esteem, and self-worth became a joke about beer, being fat and playing Fortnite.”
Another fan wrote: “Thor is depressed. Overdrinking, overeating and acting down.”
Thor’s fat suit was indeed shameful for MCU and Russo Brothers who kept everyone on their toes with Endgame. Poor Chris Hemsworth’s Thor became a butt of jokes and the subject to a fair amount of criticism.
