Crunchyroll has expanded its ad-supported catalog, introducing a lineup of sought-after anime titles such as Chainsaw Man, Spy×Family, Vinland Saga, Blue Lock, Lycoris Recoil, My Dress-Up Darling, and more! This allows free Crunchyroll users to enjoy these new advertising video-on-demand (AVOD) offerings.
While these titles are accessible in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, availability may differ for users in other regions.
In March 2022, Crunchyroll announced a shift in its viewing system, stopping free ad-supported access to new and ongoing simulcasts starting from the spring 2022 season. Subscriptions became necessary for viewing these simulcasts, with the first three episodes of each series remaining ad-supported for a week after debut, and following episodes becoming exclusive to subscribers.
While ad-supported viewing was no longer available for ongoing anime starting in spring 2022, Crunchyroll ensured that content before this season would still be accessible for free with ads. Also, Crunchyroll introduced “Seasonal Samplers” in September 2022, which offers new content for free with ads at the start of each anime season and regularly refreshes the AVOD content lineup.
