The British TV show “A Discovery of Witches” is based on the Deborah Harkness trilogy “All Souls”. ‘A Discovery of Witches Season 2’ will be its sequel. In this article, we tell the reader everything we know so far about this English romantic fantasy written by Kate Brooke, Tom Farrelly, Charlene James & Sarah Dollard, under the direction of Juan Carlos Medina, Alice Troughton & Sarah Walker.
Entertainment giant Sky Productions & Bad Wolf have teamed up to produce “A Discovery of Witches”, a second season with Teresa Palmer, Edward Bluemel, Matthew Goode, Louise Brealey, Malin Buska, Aiysha Hart, Owen Teale, Alex Kingston & Valerie Pettiford.
A Discovery of Witches Season 1 Plot
The first season of “A Discovery of Witches” began on September 2018, running at ten episodes. Later that year, Sky One chose to renew the series for two more seasons. So there will be more of this fantasy romance drama for those eager to take their minds into the beautiful world of Diana Bishop (Teresa Palmer), a witch that discovers a cursed scroll in a library at Oxford University. Seeing this artifact takes Diana into a world of magic spells, and she has to untangle the web of mysteries in front of her. To her aid, comes a vampire science guy (Matthew Goode). Although Bishop –a witch– does not trust vampires, she decides to join forces with the vampire and seek to solve the mysteries of the enchanted artifact.
A Discovery of Witches Season 2 Production details
A Discovery of Witches was first purchased by Warner Brothers last decade. It was Denise Di Novi’s & Allison Greenspan’s production of a film that had some details out there for the press to catch, and it had a screenwriter of the likes of Pulitzer Prize for Drama recipient David Auburn. But that never flourished, so British network Sky One bought the rights for the books and turned them into a TV show, catering to the demands of young millennials, eager to consume on-demand productions of dramas worldwide.
The first season took six months of filming –mostly in Wales & some studio shots at Bad Wolf’s lair in Cardiff–, and finished in February 2018. The second season of A Discovery of Witches is hit with COVID–19 delay syndrome, a phenomenon that seems to affect every production out there with travel plans in their schedule.
Many productions have gotten their plans rendered by their showrunners as “no longer viable” after the World Health Organization’s recommendations for the public in regards to the global coronavirus strain outbreak.
Still, despite the setbacks, A Discovery of Witches receives right critics, good ratings –nearly two million viewers–, and the second season is full of details of Diana Bishop’s life. That portrayal of magic and antics will see airtime sometime after the production crew rids the project of the coronavirus pandemic-related delay.
