Dolemite Is My Name, the movie that celebrates Eddie Murphy’s return to the big screen had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7, 2019.
The movie Dolemite follows life and times of Moore, his journey from a record shop employee, to a hit in comedy and next on to become a self-made man behind the iconic blaxploitation films. It was in 1975, that the comedian, singer and actor Rudy Ray Moore broke into Hollywood with his revenge-seeking pimp. He founded the exploitation films, the iconic Dolemite stood behind his label.
Come 2019 and at Westwood’s Regency Theater on Saturday night, Eddie Murphy portrayed blaxploitation star’s life on the big screen and to Moore’s rise in the industry. Murphy called it a great story, a great inspirational story and that people needed to something this incredible had happened.
Dolemite Is My Name has been written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski along with Murphy for about 16 years before it’s release. During this long period, they say that it all went away, so then they picked the story from after their time on American Crime Story: The People vs. OJ Simpson and with Murphy’s assistance crafter their art.
Dolemite Is My Name will be released in a limited release on October 4, 2019, before digital streaming on October 25, 2019, by Netflix.
