The official Twitter account for the anime adaptation of Yuri Kitayama and Riv’s Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles light novels revealed that the highly anticipated second season is set to debut in 2024. The first season of Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles premiered in July 2021 on TV Tokyo, airing on BS Fuji and AT-X while also being available for streaming on platforms like ABEMA. International viewers could stream the show on Crunchyroll, where it was simulcast during its Japanese broadcast.
Another day, another isekai. The story of Serei Gensouki follows the protagonist as he navigates a world of reincarnation, magic, and high school. While the narrative might sound common, there’s definitely a refreshing take on it. With the richly developed characters and stunning animation, Seirei Gensouki invites viewers on a thrilling rollercoaster of a school attended by only nobles.
From the start of each arc to the end, the series successfully delivers a satisfying experience every time. Whether you’re a fan of the manga or anime, you can stand as proof to the point that Seirei Gensouki has a well-developed plot, irrespective of its overall success and reviews.

The series has been published under Hobby Japan’s HJ Bunko imprint since October 2015.
Then, a manga adaptation featuring art by Tenkla was serialized on Hobby Japan’s Comic Fire website from 2016 to 2017, but it was discontinued due to the artist’s health issues. Another manga adaptation, illustrated by Futago Minaduki, has been serialized on the same platform since July 2017.

The Plot
After a fatal accident (probably truck-kun) takes the life of 20-year-old student Haruto Amakawa, he’s stunned to find out he’s reincarnated as a young boy, Rio. As their memories and personalities intertwine, Rio discovers he has magical abilities and still harbors his desire for vengeance against his mother’s killers.
A chance event leads Rio to rescue the abducted princess of Bertram Kingdom, earning him an unexpected place at the renowned Bertram Royal Academy. Eager for this fresh start, he grabs the opportunity, all while learning to live and fit in among the academy’s elites while being a “slum-dweller.”
Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles earned mainly positive ratings despite initially skeptical expectations. It unapologetically embraces overused elements, from cliché plots to a generic “Kirito-type” character voiced by the same seiyuu, and even includes cringe-worthy and emo moments, but the plot carries the anime.
The anime does a good job of balancing out its cons with pros. So, we’d recommend giving it a try if you’ve run out of things to watch. Otherwise, it doesn’t make it on our watch list.
