Apple has not been paying much attention to iPod touch. The last time they updated the iPod touch was back in July 2015. They launched the sixth generation model at that time. The company has discontinued all other iPods as of July 2017. The big question here is whether Apple will end iPod Touch as well.
Mac mini and MacBook Air were getting the same treatment. They were being ignored for years before Apple finally decided to update the devices in October 2018. Apple has surprised us in the past so it could well and truly be possible that iPod Touch would be getting an update.
A Japanese website Macotakara reported in January 2019 that a lot of Apple suppliers have said that Apple might be developing iPod touch (7th generation) which will take over iPod touch (6th generation). Also, M Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities stated in a research note that he believes that a new iPod touch will come out in 2019. It will have an upgraded processor as well.
The current price for iPod touch 6th generation is as follows:
We are assuming that the new generation of iPod will launch at the same price as the previous generation.
The new iPod touch will most likely take on the same look like the newer iPhones. The 6th generation model measured 58.6mm by 123.4mm, which is akin to the iPhone 6, 6S and iPhone SE. The next-gen model will most likely be slimmer. People would want a few more colors for the seventh generation iPod Touch. The previous generation had pink, silver, space grey, gold, blue and red.
The sixth generation iPod Touch has an A8 chip and M8 motion coprocessor found in the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. iPod Touch has 8-megapixel rear camera with slo-mo and burst mode. The seventh generation iPod Touch will most likely have the A12 chip.
