The Plot
Meet Tama, an exceptional katawara (monster) who fights her own kind to safeguard humans from evil forces. Standing by her side is Jinka, her conflicted brother with a hatred for humans despite his shared heritage. Together with the timid swordsman Shinsuke, they form an unlikely trio.
When their mission unveils a sinister plot to transform humans into monsters, they pledge to destroy the mastermind behind it, even if it means facing an entire army of warriors. Throughout their journey, they’ll encounter remarkable individuals, and breathtaking landscapes, and engage in battles that will make them future legends.
Worth a Watch?
Mizukami Satoshi, the creative mind behind Sengoku Youko, has a knack for flipping conventions in the world of action storytelling. While many writers use betrayals to fuel conflicts, Satoshi created a world where action births heartwarming reunions.
Sengoku Youko is surprisingly a satisfying adventure, skillfully positioning itself among the most fulfilling narratives in the genre. Though the “Spirit Circle” series is almost a near-flawless masterpiece, Sengoku Youko stresses its distinct charm as an immersive read.
With its unrefined and loosely structured themes and characters, the manga possesses a raw authenticity. Truth being said, the battles are less about strategy and more about channeling the familiar Shounen spirit, yet this dynamic is turned upside down by the sheer grandeur and scope of the adventure.
Through “Biscuit Hammer,” “Sengoku Youko,” and “Spirit Circle,” Satoshi has gone down different paths. The youthful aura and growth that characterized these works have been aptly explored. The anticipation for Satoshi’s future with this anime adaptation is very exciting, and we can’t see what it will bring us.
