The show follows the story of Futaba Yoshioka is a 16-year-old high school student who tries to blend in with the female friends of her school by pretending to be unfeminine, But because of the past history of her female classmates, she got rejected out of jealousy. So, she feels that her life is boring. Once she meets with Kou Tanaka, her first love and the previous boyfriend who had earlier gone to Nagasaki in middle school. Futaba feels that Kou has become a totally changed person than she remembered him. He is now unfriendly and reserved. As a new school session starts, Futaba chooses that she would make some positive changes for herself this year and decides to volunteer to become the class representative.
Later Futaba learns that Kou’s mother had passed away after he moved away, and as she helps him process his grief, and eventually she falls in love with him again. But soon she realizes that she cannot change Kou, So she determines to move on. Therefore she begins a relationship with Toma Kikuchi, On the other hand, Kou understands that his relationship with Yui is keeping him back and restraining him from having positive changes in his life. After he pushes himself for good from the relationship, he starts actively attempting Futaba. In the meantime, Futaba’s lingering affections for him unsettles her relationship with Toma, and they eventually break up.
During Christmas, Futaba and Kou agree to meet in someplace where they had vowed to meet years before his transfer, But that did not happen as Kou was involved in a minor accident that day. In the hospital, Futaba and Kou both lastly confess their feelings to each other that both of them are in love. But at the end of the series, we witness that both of them start fresh with their new partners and bring in new and positive changes in their lives. Kou now changed his surname back to his original surname Tanaka, and Futaba now understands that something fascinating has finally started for her as she commences with her new beginning.
