Delicious in Dungeon’s Anime Adaptation
The anime adaptation of Delicious in Dungeon was announced in August 2022 and is produced by Studio Trigger. Yoshihiro Miyajima takes the director’s chair, with Kimiko Ueno handling the scripts. Naoki Takeda will design the characters, and Yasunori Mitsuda will compose the music.
The Delicious in Dungeon manga, written and illustrated by Ryōko Kui, was first published in Enterbrain’s Harter magazine in February 2014, followed by Yen Press acquiring the publishing license in 2016.
A stop motion animation titled “Senshi’s Easy Cooking!” (Senshi no Kantan Kukkingu!) was released in 2017 on YouTube to celebrate the manga’s fifth volume, followed by an animated advertisement produced by Studio Trigger in 2019 to celebrate the manga’s eighth volume.
The Plot
A group of adventurers set out to slay a red dragon in the dungeon, only to be met with defeat and the loss of Laois’ sister, Falin, to the stomach of the dragon. But this isn’t the end for her. She has a month before she is digested by the creature, which means Laios and his buddies have only 30 days to save their friend.
The remaining trio, indebted to Falin’s selfless act of teleporting them to safety, return to the dungeon in time to rescue her. But all their equipment and food were left behind, and now they’re penniless with nothing to sustain themselves. This is until Laios suggests the not-so-normal idea of eating whatever they find in the dungeons.
“Let’s eat the monsters!” Slimes, basilisks, mimics, and even dragons…none are safe from the stomachs of these dungeon-crawling gourmands!”
The Cast and Characters
Laios, the protagonist, is voiced by Kentaro Kumagai. He leads the group with his strength but lacks tactical skills. His sole mission is to rescue his sister. Laios has a unique approach to gaining knowledge about monsters, by devouring them.
His secret passion for trying different creatures is amusing. Despite his excitement, Laios remains kind and composed.
Chilchuck, the quick-witted locksmith, is voiced by Asuna Tomari. He plays a crucial role in the group. He uncovers hidden paths and disables traps for the group. Chilchuck’s logical nature makes him scold Laios for his poor decisions and obsession with monsters.
He dislikes engaging in combat and is not fond of others attempting to take over his role.
Marcille, voiced by Sayaka Senbongi, is the group’s most powerful magic user. Capable of effortlessly casting complex spells with minimal preparation, her remarkable abilities often go unnoticed or unappreciated by her companions.
Unlike her teammates, she hesitates to consume the monsters they encounter and may even refuse to do so altogether.
Falin, Laios’ sister, possesses unique magical talents as well. She can teleport individuals using her magic and can communicate with ghosts. Tragically, she falls victim to a red dragon’s devouring jaws, setting in motion a one-month rescue mission before her eventual digestion.
