Empire star Jussie Smollet has landed recently in legal trouble and that led many fans of the show Empire to think perhaps he’s not going to be in Season 6 of the show. Jessie recently pleaded not guilty to 16 felony counts of disorderly conduct for allegedly filing a false police report.
The felonies included filing a false police report, for allegedly staging a hate crime hoax. With each count comes a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $25,000 fine. Jussie is currently out on $100,000 bail sum, and the next court hearing is due on April 17. The indictment had been filled against Jessie for 16 charges by the Chicago police to the grand jury. Apparently, there was enough evidence to try Smollett for the 16 charges.
According to co-star Taraji P. Henson, Jussie Smollett isn’t going anywhere and that he will be back for Season 6 of Empire. She’s straight up mentioned that we can expect him back next season should the show be renewed. Empire Season 6 hasn’t been renewed as yet. The show has pretty strong ratings. Hence Season 6 is a pretty safe bet.
Henson further said that she hadn’t heard anything regarding Smollett’s firing. Fox declined to comment on the issue too. Jussie plays Smollett’s on-screen son in Empire. She was all praise for Jussie saying that she knows him and she knows his record and she’s not going to jump on clickbait because someone says something derogatory about a person she knows and loves.
Henson further added that the little clickbait referring to reports weren’t enough to deter her from Jussie’s immaculate track record. Henson said she knows the type of activism Jussie does in his community. She knows he’s a giver and not an attention-seeker.
Empire airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on Fox.
