The Lion King Remake Sequel [Status]
We are incredibly pleased to inform you that a sequel has been given the green light, and it’s already in the works. You must be thinking what changes will the sequel have; well, it’s too early to predict that; however, there is indeed one significant change. According to the latest updates, the remake has appointed a new director, and we can’t wait to see what he will prepare for us.
Moonlight’s Barry Jenkins will be helming the project, and we have even more exciting details for you. According to Deadline’s recent post, the upcoming sequel will explore the ‘mythologies’ of the characters, and Mufasa’s past story will be the primary focus. It will be implementing the style of Godfather II and will have the ‘photo-realistic technology’ with music as the core element just as the remake. The movie is more like a ‘follow-up,’ and we will have new music to enjoy.
Jeff Nathanson has completed the initial draft, and we are waiting for more details to arrive. The Oscar-winning director expressed his emotions after landing the project. He revealed that he has grown up with the characters, and the fact that he can now work on ‘this magnificent tale of friendship, love, and legacy’ is a dream come true.
Jenkins also shared the update on his Twitter, thereby confirming the development.
The Lion King Remake Sequel Cast
The upcoming movie doesn’t have a release date yet, as well as the cast. However, given the story of the film, we expect the old characters to return. That means we might see Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, James Earl Jones, return as Simba, Pumba, Scar, and Mufasa. Other actors include Billy Eichner (Timon) and John Oliver (Zazu).
Directed by Jon Favreau, the original remake made it to the screens on 19th July 2019 and proved to be a huge commercial success. Grossing over $1.6 billion, it became the highest-earning animated film ever. Overall, the audience’s response was also good, and the photo-realistic animation was one of the main reasons for that.
As we discussed above, a sequel for The Lion King remake is in the works, and under the direction of Barry Jenkins, we hope to see yet another classic that takes us through the fantastic tale of Mufasa and gang.
There are no updates beyond this. However, we hope to get more in the upcoming days. We will keep you updated as soon as we get further updates from Disney.
