After a peculiar video went viral on Saturday, enthusiasts of “American Idol” are currently imploring the show’s producers to dismiss Katy Perry from her role as a judge. The video showcases the “Smile” singer donning a snug leather and acting cat-like behaviors, leading fans to express their discontent and request her removal from the show.
Throughout the 21st season of the show, the “Part of Me” singer has become the target of numerous social media rants and derogatory remarks due to her proactive coaching methods, which some viewers perceive as potentially “rude”.
In the video, which was shared on the official “Idol” Instagram account, Katy Perry, 38, Luke Bryan, aged 46, and Lionel Richie, aged 73, are seen seated at the judge’s table. In the video, the “All Night Long” singer made a comment about his co-judge outfit, referring “We have a cat woman with us”. Richie’s jest prompted laughter from Luke Bryan, who playfully referred to their fellow judge as “Katy Purry”.
Unfazed by the remarks, the “Peacock” singer responded with humor by energetically standing on her chair, extending her left leg, and then returning to a crouching position, playfully mimicking a posture of a cat by raising her hands like paws. “I’m ready to prowl for talent”, Perry expressed.
Following that, Perry proceeded to lightly tap Bryan’s shoulder, while the country singer appeared to ignore the playful actions of the “I Kissed a Girl” singer. Trying to capture Bryan’s attention, Perry playfully remarked, “That’s me pawing”.
“Idol” fans can’t stand Perry’s behavior anymore
The bizarre video received a negative response from fans of the show, with several expressing their displeasure towards Katy Perry’s behavior, with many commenting that they “can’t stand” her anymore. One of the fans commented, “Can’t stand her. They need to get rid of her and Luke”. Another fan joined in, adding that they found Perry’s actions to be ridiculous.
One fan expressed that they had “lost respect” for Perry, while another individual deemed the entire act as “so stupid”.
This is not the first instance where the “Dark Horse” singer has encountered negative feedback. Earlier in the season, Perry gained notoriety after seemingly criticizing Sara Beth Liebe, a contestant who decided to leave the show in order to prioritize spending time with her three children.
Fans became even more irritated with the singer when she appeared to show a dismissive attitude toward a contestant after one of her favorite competitors go eliminated, leading to accusations of “psychological warfare”. However, Perry managed to temporarily evade the backlash from fans when she was briefly substituted with Alanis Morissette as a judge on the show.
In the hopes of retaining Alanis Morissette as a permanent judge, fans endeavored to initiate a petition, pleading with the “Jagged Little Pill” singer not to be “the one that got away”.
In the past few weeks, Peery has made statements alleging that the producers of “Idol” have not demonstrated “unconditional” loyalty towards her. She accused them of intentionally editing footage to portray her as a “nasty” judge and “threw her under the bus”.
Katy Perry may not return for season 22 of the show
Media reports suggested that there are speculations regarding Katy Perry’s potential absence from the 22nd season of American Idol. Allegedly, the judge has encountered substantial criticism from dedicated viewers in recent months, raising concerns about her depiction and involvement in the show. With all the controversies surrounding her, these speculations are made.
In the event of Perry’s departure from the longstanding show, she would be relinquishing a purported $25 million per season contract. However, reports indicate that monetary considerations are not her primary concern. Rather, Perry’s focus lies on safeguarding her legacy and not being defined by a talent competition show that she is not actively performing.
It is uncertain at this point whether Katy Perry will actually quit American Idol, as these reports are derived from insider information and have not been officially verified or confirmed.
