GA Bunko recently took to Twitter to announce that the beloved light novel series ‘Chivalry of a Failed Knight’ by Riku Misora and illustrated by Won is finally coming to an end. The 19th volume, set to release on December 15, will mark the conclusion of this fantasy tale.
Fans have been on the edge of their seats, waiting for the upcoming volume, since the previous 18th volume, which kicked off the final arc back in June 2020. Originally scheduled to conclude by the end of 2022, the series took a bit longer to reach its climax, but we can bet it’s gonna be worth the wait.

The Plot and Cast of the Series
Chivalry of a Failed Knight follows Ikki Kurogane, known as the “Worst One,” is a Blazer (people who can materialize their souls as a weapon) whose magical abilities are zero. Undeterred, he dedicates his life to becoming a master at swordplay, determined to become a Mage-Knight despite his label as a failure.
Now, meet Stella Vermillion, the unbeaten second imperial princess of the Vermillion Empire, who arrives in Japan seeking powerful opponents to test her unbeatable talent. At Hagun Academy, they cross paths and discover their shared ambition: to become respected Mage-Knights.
Their journey begins at the Seven Stars Battle Festival, a tournament that gathers the strongest student knights from all seven schools across Japan, where they strive to claim the title of Seven Stars King. Can Ikki and Stella overcome the mightiest Blazers and achieve their dream of becoming the epitome of knighthood?
The cast for the anime adaptation includes Ryōta Ōsaka voicing Ikki Kurogane, Shizuka Ishigami voicing Stella Vermillion, Nao Tōyama voicing Shizuku Kurogane, Shintarō Asanuma voicing Nagi “Alice” Arisuin, Yū Kobayashi voicing Ayase Ayatsuji and Hisako Kanemoto voicing Toka Todo.
Originally released as a light novel, ‘Chivalry of a Failed Knight’ is written by Riku Misora and illustrated by Won. Published by SB Creative’s GA Bunko imprint in 2013, the story follows the journey of Ikki Kurogane, determined to become a true knight despite being labelled as the “Worst One.”
For international fans, Sol Press acquired the license and released the first three volumes in 2019, but unfortunately, they published a total of five volumes before going defunct. A manga adaptation, illustrated by Megumu Soramichi, ran in Monthly Shonen Gangan from 2014 to 2017 and was collected in eleven volumes.
An anime adaptation, produced by Silver Link and Nexus, aired in Japan from October to December 2015, for 12 thrilling episodes, and was simulcast on Hulu and Crunchyroll.
According to readers, Chivalry of a Failed Knight delivers a “pretty good” light novel experience with engaging stories and likable characters. Although it may not reach the standards and depth of other fan favourites, it earns a solid rating of 8 out of 10. The blend of action and romance and the well-developed narrative make it enjoyable.
