Kyoto Animation has set the stage for excitement with a fresh teaser video and key visual for the “Sound! Euphonium 3” anime. Introducing the character Mayu Kuroe, a third-year transfer student and euphonium virtuoso, whose unique persona and musical skills promise to be central to the third season’s storyline.
The teaser treats us to a soul-stirring solo euphonium performance of Glenn Miller’s timeless “Moonlight Serenade.” The third season will debut in April 2024, animating Kumiko’s third year in high school.

Sound! Euphonium: Staff, Cast, Plot
Directed by Tatsuya Ishihara and produced by Kyoto Animation, the anime adaptation aired in 2015, and the second season concluded in 2016 with overall 26 episodes.
The third season was confirmed in 2022 and is set to release in 2024. Jukki Hanada was in charge of the series composition and scripts, while the late Shouko Ikeda designed the characters.
Written by Ayano Takeda, Sound! Euphonium first debuted in 2015 and ended in 2018 with regular additions to the series. The manga adaptation, illustrated by Hami, was published on the ‘Kono Manga ga Sugoi! Web’ website for one year, from 2014 to 2015, with three volumes released as of today.

The cast includes Tomoyo Kurosawa voicing Kumiko Oumae, Ayaka Asai voicing Hazuki Katou, Moe Toyota voicing Sapphire Kawashima, Chika Anzai voicing Reina Kousaka, Haruki Ishiya voicing Shuichi Tsukamoto and Sora Amamiya voicing Kanade Hisaishi.
The Plot of Season 3 (Minor Spoilers)
In the pursuit of gold at Nationals, the band’s determination remains untouched. Kumiko assumes the role of band president, her ex-boyfriend Shuuichi Tsukamaoto acts as vice president, and Reina Kousaka steps into the role of drum major. With each passing year, fresh faces join the ensemble, bringing their flair to the team.
Among them, Mayu Kuroe, an accomplished euphonium player from Seira Girls School, stands as a formidable competitor in both the school competition circuit and Sapphire’s former school.
Recap of Seasons 1 & 2
The first season of Sound! Euphonium follows Kumiko as she tries to take every chance to avoid band concerts after their downfall. However, she is convinced to join the ensemble band at her high school. Along with them, a former bandmate named Reina also joins the band. Despite the band’s history of failing to make it to nationals, they now aim to reach that goal.
Kumiko must train with the new band, building chemistry with them and also mending her bond with Reina, all while searching for her passion for music. The struggles of the band’s improvement and cooperation are the main storyline for the first season.
In season two, the band trains for their next performance after finally qualifying for the regional competition. While they attend a summer camp, tensions arise when a former member, Natsuki Nakagawa, asks to rejoin, causing tension among some second-year students. Despite this, Kumiko and her friends are determined to reach nationals and win it.
