The official website for the second season of the anime adaptation of Yabako Sandrovich’s Kengan Ashura manga recently revealed exciting news. Fans can look forward to the second part of the season premiering in 2024, with a trailer release.
Furthermore, the first part of the season made its debut on Netflix, and lucky viewers in Tokyo had the opportunity to catch an early screening at TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills on September 10. This sequel will animate the thrilling finals of the Kengan Annihilation Tournament and the long-awaited conclusion to the original story.
The anime initially had its world premiere at the Anime Expo in July 2018 after winning a fan voting contest in 2015 to secure the coveted adaptation.

The upcoming season of Kengan Ashura will animate the final of the Kengan Annihilation Tournament arc and end the original story. The first season premiered in 2018.
The manga, written by Yabako Sandrovich and illustrated by Daromeon, debuted in 2012. Today, the series has collected 27 manga volumes and has received two seasons of an anime adaptation, with rumors of a third season.
In short, the plot of Kengan Ashura essentially is fighting equals trade. In the world of Kengan Ashura, business deals are made not through meetings and contracts but through brutal clashes between hired underground fighters.
Yabako Sandrovich’s manga is set in a world where martial arts reign supreme. In a time where strong fighters settle disputes for wealthy businessmen, Ouma Tokita, known as “The Ashura,” seeks to “become the strongest.”
Under the management of Kazuo Yamashita, an ordinary middle-aged man turned manager, they take fights one day at a time to emerge as the undefeated duo.
The anime is directed by Seiji Kishi and is produced by Larx Entertainment. Makoto Uezu handled the series’ composition, Kazuaki Morita designed the characters, and Yasuharu Takanashi from Team-MAX composed the music.
The opening theme song, King & Ashley, was performed by MY FIRST STORY, and the ending theme song, Born This Way, was performed by BAD HOP.
Kengan Ashura vs Baki
I’m sure when you first heard of Kengan Ashura, you thought of Baki, but don’t worry because you’re not the only one. The two series have numerous similarities, from the basic plot to the characters to the series composition. Some think Kengan Ashura is a rip-off of Baki. Let’s see how much truth that statement holds.
Martial arts, heavy tournament arcs, overpowered characters, and graphic violence are the signature elements of both Baki and Kengan Ashura. So when a series incorporates similar elements, it’s almost begging to be compared, so let’s fulfill that wish.
The fight sequences and backstories of the fighters are a lot more realistic in Kengan Ashura. It doesn’t expect you to believe that a caveman who fought dinosaurs is Ashura’s opponent. That being said, Baki doesn’t expect you to believe that either. It feeds you this information but doesn’t ask its viewers to believe it.
Kengan Ashura has an actual plot and actual character development, while in Baki; the characters remain the same from the start of the fight to the end. But that’s the point! The strongest in the world come to fight Baki and will only accept defeat if it’s in the form of death. So, where’s the time for character development?
Baki has, no doubt, succeeded in entertaining me for every episode, while Kengan Ashura lost me for a while. The only way to find out which is better is to watch them!
