The Gameplay
In this side-scrolling platform adventure, you’ll find yourself immersed in a 2.5D world, where the 3D visuals blend with the traditional 2D gameplay. Your mission? Take on the notorious Doctor Eggman and his hired hand, Fang the Hunter, as they attempt to capture the giant animals of the North Star Islands for a sinister purpose.
Choose from four distinct characters, each with unique abilities: Sonic, who can dash after a jump; Tails, with the power of flight; Knuckles, the expert glider and climber; and Amy, who wields a hammer and boasts a double jump.
Across the 12 zones of the North Star Islands, you’ll encounter classic Sonic elements like springs, loops, and those precious rings that serve as your health points. Keep an eye out for shield power-ups to aid you in your journey.
Each zone is a thrilling adventure in itself, featuring various challenges and unique elements, like grinding on vines in a jungle setting or transforming into a voxel creature in a futuristic zone.
Zones are divided into acts, each resulting in a boss battle that will test your skills and reflexes. Between levels, you can go on side quests to explore a 2D hub world where you can select zones and customize your character to your heart’s desire.
Sonic Superstars also introduces special stages, where you can swing through 3D environments to collect Chaos Emeralds. These emeralds grant power-up abilities and even the coveted super form, granting invincibility and blazing speed.
And don’t forget the multiplayer fun where you can enjoy local multiplayer with up to four players or engage in player-versus-player battles, whether locally or online, where you can create your robots to fight it out.
