Well, who doesn’t love a good drag show, especially when it involves different talented drag artists competing for a title in a reality series filled with several different challenges that they need to win and elimination that they need to avoid to become the winner in the end?
Directed by Nathan Noyes and Michael Varrati, a reality series by The Boulet Brothers titled “Dragula” follows a similar pattern with a set of eleven drag artists from around the world competing in an underground style drag competition each season.
The drag artists compete to win the crown of “Dragula – the World’s Next Drag Supermonster,” which comes with it after avoiding elimination and winning different challenges set by the brothers for the drag artists to compete in before they are eligible to become the season’s winner.
Well, now a brand new season of the banger show Dragula made a return on Shudder for viewers to enjoy with a set of new contestants trying to become the new season’s winner without being removed from the series in the starting days this fall season.
The Boulet Brothers, which hosts the reality series, has a unique set of challenges that drag artists have to perform in order to become the season winner. This year, Anna Phylactic, Blackberry, Cynthia Doll, Fantasia Royale Gaga, Jarvis Hammer, Jay Kay, Niohuru X, Orkgotik, Satanna, Thorb Zombie, and Onyx Ondyx will be competing for the title and money.
Released on 31 October 2023, the series has already removed two drag artists, Jay Kay, and Onyx Indyx; thus, only nine drag artists remain in the reality series, eligible to become the season’s winner and take home the money after beating eight other contestants.
This season, the drag artists are given a set of new challenges that they need to perform to win. Due to this season, they will be judged by none other than the Boutlet brothers themselves, including Dracmodra Boulet and Swanthula Boulet with Landon Cider.
Premise
The new season follows the same pattern that has been followed by the reality series for the last four seasons, with eleven drag artists participating in the reality series to take on the challenges put in front of them in hopes of becoming the ultimate winner of the reality series and taking home the season’s title.
The series has each episode open with a scripted piece that stars the Boulet Brothers, introducing the theme and challenge to the contestants, but the remaining episode is unscripted and filmed in a documentary format with the competitors getting the week’s challenge and getting ready for it.
Each episode of The Boulet Brother’s Dragula features a prime “Floor Show” challenge where the competing drag artists have to showcase the look that they created while performing in front of the judges, which leads to one of the artists becoming the winner while the two lost scoring artists get put against each other in the extermination challenge.
The extermination challenge featured in the reality series has a physical test that is created to push the competing artists to face their biggest fear to continue remaining part of the show. Some of the past extermination challenges included artists skydiving, getting pierced with gauged needles, surviving in a haunted house, and eating a cow’s intestines.
Well, the competitor who fails to perform the challenge properly gets removed from the show by getting killed by the Boutlet brothers in a set of scripted sequences and fails to win the season’s title.
This season witnessed the Boutlet brothers introducing an all-new cast of drag artists, and the first episode had them performing a fright feat challenge where the contestants had to find their way through the woods, and the contestants that failed to do so resulted in their ultimate extermination.
The Floor Challenge consisted of the contestants creating a look inspired by the theme titled “Terrors of The Woods” before presenting it in front of the judges for them to judge and select the bottom two to perform the extermination challenge that consisted of the contestants having to hike to the “Bridge of Nowhere” that resulted in Jay Kay getting removed.
The second episode consisted of the contestants having to chug a smoothie made of jellied eels, kidneys, and chitlins, and the one who chugs the fastest wins the challenge, followed by a Floor Show Challenge.
The Floor Challenge had the contestants create a look inspired by the theme ” Trashcan Children” before presenting it in front of the judges before two of them land in the extermination challenge that requires the contestants to transfer maggots with their mouths, which ends with Onyx getting removed from the reality series.
