Developed by Rob Letterman and Nicholas Stoller, Goosebumps is a ten-part supernatural horror comedy series focusing on Harold’s death and the troubles raised by his angry spirit. Rob and Nicholas also executive-produced the series along with other producers.
Thomas Yatsko and Stephen McNutt were hired as cinematographers. Filming took place from October 2022 to March 2023 in Vancouver. The series was edited by Darren C. Bui, Tuan Quoc Le, Debby Germino, and Christopher S. Capp.
Goosebumps was already in the works from April 2020, and the production companies had teamed up by then. However, they hunted for appropriate cast and crew members over two years. Disney+ gave a 10-episode order in February 2022.
Some critics find the series spooky enough to get nightmares and chills down the spine. Goosebumps is based on a series of novels by R.L. Stine, an American short-story writer, novelist, and television producer.
Goosebumps Filming Locations
The events in Goosebumps occur in the fictional Pacific Coastal town, Port Lawrence, filmed in North Vancouver. The Biddle House and Port Lawrence are not real. The writers combined the places for the characters to work together because it is not an anthology series.
Port Lawrence High School
Port Lawrence High School was filmed at Samuel Robertson Technical Secondary School, which focuses on making the students well-rounded to let them succeed after they pass out of school. It is in Maple Ridge, British Columbia.
The classrooms and hallways of the school are relatively smaller, which depicts a small-town setting. The production team selected the school for its proximity to other Goosebumps filming locations and modern equipment. Moreover, the leading characters play typical high-school students pretty well.
Port Lawrence Marina
The leading characters in the series often meet at the Harbor Shop in Port Lawrence Marina, filmed at Deep Cove North Shore. Hikers, paddle boarders, and other outdoor enthusiasts love the place for its scenic beauty.
It is at the easternmost North Vancouver, British Columbia. The exterior and interiors were filmed using the doubles.
The Biddle House
The Biddle House/Goosebumps House looks like a typical haunted house in North America. It was filmed at Minnekhada Lodge, built by Lieutenant Governor Eric Hamber in 1934, like a traditional Scottish Hunting Lodge in Coquitlam, Canada.
Surrounded by a Japanese garden and lush forest, the lodge is available for small weddings and gatherings. It is at the center of the plot in Goosebumps because it is the house where Harold dies, and the unforgettable Halloween party takes place.
The Cuckoo Clock of Doom
In Goosebumps Episode 3, James accidentally hits his head into the Cuckoo Clock of Doom, which creates his Dupes. The scene was filmed at the Britannia Mine Museum, a non-profit organization administered by the Britannica Beach Historical Society.
Located in Britannica Beach (Vancouver), people formerly addressed the museum as the British Columbia Museum of Mining. The varying tunnels are appropriate for filming various underground structures.
The Gas And Convenience Store
The little all-purpose store, Iron Mountain Store, was selected for filming the seventh episode’s gas and convenience store. Located in Maple Ridge, the store has two large fabrication shops and often gets used for filming by other productions.
The Mountain Scenes
Bratt again gets possessed by Harold, who knocks out Nora on the mountain, and Isaiah falls down the cliff’s edge in the eighth episode. These mountain scenes were filmed at the Whistler Olympic Park in Madeley Creek basin, Callaghan Valley, British Columbia, in February 2023.
Sports lovers prefer the Whistler Olympic Park for performing Nordic sports and outdoor recreation activities. It was used for performing events in the 2010 Winter Olympics.
The Yacht Club
The first episode of Goosebumps begins with an aerial shot that shows the Deep Cove Yacht Club in Vancouver. The production team added more trees, removed some buildings to add a green field, and showed that it is less populated than it is.
Deep Cove Yacht Club’s smaller size gives it a rural feel. Moreover, greenery surrounded by water makes it go with the storyline.
