The long-format version of Gold Rush set in the Alaskan shores, Bering Sea Gold is a very entertaining show to watch on Discovery Channel, not only because of its run time but also because of the characters and stories there, while the Yukon dudes are a bit more stressed and oftentimes chill. These crews must deal with the cold, freezing waters and deal with the same hurdles that every gold prospecting enterprise entails.
From bad weather, equipment malfunction, budgetary issues, short staffing, government inspections, family ties, ups and downs, it is all going for these crews as the calendar ticks day in and out and these daring adventurers take a plunge into the deep frozen waters of the Bering Sea to try and find precious metals that they can sell for profit. So, what went down in the last episode? Let’s take a look.
Recap
The episode kicks off with a very intense discussion between crew members because the money is short, time is running out, and the problems faced drain the budget. Still, things move on. We see how Shawn begins to strike a deal with his dad for the inland mine fall. He thinks there’s a shot there, and while his dad’s reticence to kick up the cash, things need to get solved, otherwise, its a failed deal.
We move on to Emily, who managed to get a new diver, and after a few talks on expectations, a confessional and a recount of how her bad work relationships with previous divers had put her between a rock and a hard place when it comes to the calendar slowly drying up, things get complicated.
Speaking of divers, we also saw how Chris managed to take a plunge and dive solo, he handled himself well, we can see him shudder and shiver when he makes contact with the water, but that’s his thing, he used the machinery and had no trouble doing all that’s necessary to get the gold in the bottom of the sea.
All of the crews are facing their own problems in their own accretions, personal issues, malfunctions, budget issues, license problems and the likes, and in this long-format version of this docuseries we see all that stuff in detail.
Despite the hurdles, gold is found, everyone finds at least a gold nugget, but that gold nugget won’t pay the bills, that gold nugget won’t be enough. So there’s a lot more to get done. In that sense, the rivalries between Shawn Pomremke, and the Reaper Nation Captain, Nome’s “Mr. Gold” pops out again, and things get dramatic.
