The search for the next James Bond director is ongoing, with meetings reportedly being held with several potential candidates.
According to a report, a select group of filmmakers is participating in “a first round of speed dates” at Eon Productions’ London headquarters.
Among the names rumored to be on the shortlist are Edward Berger, known for directing Netflix’s remake of All Quiet on the Western Front, and Kelly Marcel, the director of Venom: The Last Dance.
The report also suggests that Eon is likely seeking someone in the vein of Martin Campbell, who famously directed GoldenEye and Casino Royale, indicating that Christopher Nolan may not be in consideration.
David Michôd has been mentioned in connection with Bond’s next cinematic adventure, while Bart Layton and Yann Demange are also described as “plausible choices.”
There is speculation that Campbell might return to direct Bond 26, especially since the upcoming installment is expected to be a complete reboot of the franchise with a new actor taking on the role of 007.
Campbell previously launched both the Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig eras, having directed the first film for each actor.
Once a director is selected, the focus will shift to choosing an actor for the lead role. The report highlights Aaron Taylor-Johnson, star of Kraven the Hunter, as the candidate who has garnered the most attention so far.
In March, British tabloid The Sun reported that Taylor-Johnson had received a “formal offer” to succeed Daniel Craig as the next James Bond.
Pierce Brosnan later voiced his support for Taylor-Johnson, praising his “talent” and “charisma” to play 007, although no official casting announcements have been made.
