Sydney Sweeney is eager to return to the halls of East Highland High School! The 26-year-old actress portrays Cassie Howard in the popular HBO drama Euphoria, which is set to begin filming its third season in January 2025, as announced by the network in July.
“I’m really looking forward to diving back into Cassie. She’s an incredibly special character to me, and I absolutely adore my Euphoria family, so I’m excited about getting back to work with them,” Sweeney, who is currently collaborating with HEYDUDE, shared about returning to set next year alongside co-stars like Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, and Hunter Schafer.
When asked what she hopes to look through in Cassie’s storyline for season 3, the White Lotus star mentioned her interest in delving deeper into the high school girl’s darker aspects.
“I love crazy Cassie, so the crazier, the better for me,” she confessed.
In the season 2 finale, Cassie had a tumultuous journey, crashing her sister Lexi’s (Apatow) play—which included scenes inspired by Cassie’s life—proclaiming herself a villain, and officially ending things with her best friend Maddy’s (Demie) ex-boyfriend Nate (Elordi).
However, Sweeney admits that she’s unsure of what’s in store for Cassie in the upcoming season of Euphoria, which was announced in 2022 with production planned for 2025.
“Honestly, I don’t know anything about it,” she said when asked if there were any details she could reveal now that fans know production will start in January.
The Anyone But You star might be keeping quiet because, as she mentioned in a March 2024 interview, talking about Euphoria can be “as scary as talking about Marvel,” referring to the notoriously secretive film franchise. “I said one thing, and it went everywhere.”
She may be alluding to her cover story for Who What Wear in March 2024, where she disclosed that there will be a time jump in season 3.
“It’s going to be very, very wild,” she told the publication about the upcoming season, before revealing the time jump. “I actually like it because there’s so much room for growth, both for me as a person and for Cassie as a character.”
Meanwhile, Sweeney is directing her energy toward her collaboration with the popular footwear brand HEYDUDE, a partnership that holds significant meaning to her as she notes that her “family’s obsessed with the brand.”
“Everyone wears it. I’ve spent the whole summer at the lake, and all my cousins wear HEYDUDEs. I’ve just been noticing more and more people wearing them,” she explained.
“I’ve definitely observed that the brand is particularly popular among young men, and I’m always drawn to brands that I want to introduce to a younger female audience because I truly believe this footwear is for everyone. It’s super comfortable, and everyone should feel comfortable and confident.”
When approached by HEYDUDE for a collaboration, the Immaculate star thought it “would be really fun to do.”
“I really wanted to share a story that not everyone gets to see. Everyone knows the Sydney Sweeney who appears on the red carpet, in L.A., and on sets, but not everyone gets to know Syd, which is where a lot of the inspiration for this campaign you’re about to see comes from,” she added.
“I’m so excited that HEYDUDE was fully on board with embracing this entirely different side of me. It was amazing. I felt so happy. My whole team said it was probably one of the most fun and organic shoots we’ve ever had, and it felt very true to who I am. That’s where it all started.”
