Riley Keough was accompanied by her grandmother Priscilla Presley during a recent visit to Graceland, where they honored her late mother, Lisa Marie Presley.
In support of Lisa Marie’s posthumously published memoir, From Here to The Great Unknown, Riley, 35, who co-authored the book, has been touring across the country to engage with readers. On Saturday, October 12, she arrived in Memphis, Tennessee, for an event hosted by Nicole Richie.
The two women took the stage at The Soundstage at Graceland, the famous home and estate of Elvis Presley. Both Lisa Marie and Riley expressed in the book how special the house has been to them over the years.
With the strong presence of the Presley family at this location, it was no surprise that Priscilla, 79, joined Riley on stage.
“I think we need another chair, because we have a surprise guest,” Riley told the audience on Saturday, as seen in a video shared on Instagram.
The clip showed Riley preparing for her appearance while taking photos with her grandmother around Graceland. The pair were seen supporting each other as they walked off the stage together.
They discussed various topics, including Lisa Marie’s brief marriage to Michael Jackson, which is covered in its own chapter in From Here to The Great Unknown.
“Did you like Michael?” Priscilla asked. After Riley affirmed that she did, Priscilla asked again, “You did?”
Riley explained that she was only 6 years old during Jackson’s time in their lives, noting that Lisa Marie was married to him from 1994 to 1996.
While discussing the book, it was Richie, 43, who became emotional—not Riley.
“Nicole’s crying—I’m supposed to be the one crying,” the Daisy Jones & The Six star joked, mentioning that she isn’t sure if the book has provided her with the “closure” that others have discussed. (Lisa Marie passed away in January 2023 at the age of 54.)
“People keep saying, like, wow, your family, there’s so much tragedy,” Riley said on Saturday. “It’s actually a very common story.”
Riley shared that she decided to return to Graceland during the book tour because it was one of Lisa Marie’s favorite places. (Elvis died at the Tennessee mansion at the age of 42 in 1977.)
“Even though she did lose her father here, I think that she felt a sense of freedom here and actually a sense of closeness to him here,” Riley reflected on her mother’s feelings about the location.
“It’s always been a place that’s emotionally complicated because there’s so much joy and closeness here, but also there’s loss as well. … But I think that’s the experience for a lot of people who come here.”
