Tom Holland is set to star in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, joining Matt Damon in this highly secretive project.
Nolan, who wrote the screenplay and will direct, is collaborating once again with Universal Pictures, which will distribute the film. The release date has been scheduled for July 17, 2026.
While plot specifics remain under wraps, sources indicate that the film’s setting is not in the present day, though it is unclear whether it takes place in the past or the future.
Nolan will produce the feature alongside his longtime producing partner and wife, Emma Thomas, under their production company, Syncopy.
This new film marks a reunion between Nolan and Universal, the studio that handled his critically acclaimed drama Oppenheimer, which earned him his first Oscars.
Nolan took home the best director award and a best picture award as a producer, with the film grossing an impressive $976 million globally.
Oppenheimer was Nolan’s first project with Universal after his public departure from Warner Bros. in late 2020, where he had worked for years.
While Oppenheimer was acquired by Universal through an open bidding process, sources say this new project was a direct deal with the studio.
Though Matt Damon is a frequent collaborator of Nolan, having previously worked with him on Oppenheimer and 2014’s Interstellar, this will be Tom Holland’s first time working with the director.
Holland’s involvement could have a significant impact on his schedule. Sources report that the actor will be balancing this project with Spider-Man 4, which has been delayed, as well as a likely appearance in Avengers: Doomsday.
Due to the delay of Spider-Man 4, Holland’s co-star Zendaya will now be filming Dune 3 in early 2026 instead of next year.
Most recently, Holland starred in Apple TV’s 2023 miniseries The Crowded Room. He is represented by WME and Sloane Offer.
