Raven may not have achieved notable success in WWE, but his impact in both WCW and ECW cemented his status as a ’90s wrestling icon, largely due to his persona that resonated deeply with the youth culture of the era.
Although he has only been inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame thus far, his life and career are the focus of a new documentary titled Nevermore: The Raven Effect.
A recently released trailer opens with NWA President Billy Corgan discussing the types of personalities that wrestling attracts, explaining that, although Raven started as an artist, he was drawn to wrestling in a similar way.
As the trailer continues, it highlights how Raven infused wrestling with the grunge music aesthetic and “teen angst,” presenting a character that felt almost like a “radical movement” within the sport.
The trailer reveals interviews with several of Raven’s ECW contemporaries, including The Sandman, Tommy Dreamer, Bully Ray, Perry Saturn, and Rob Van Dam, who share insights on the unique ECW locker room culture and how both the promotion and its fans offered something unlike anything else at the time.
Colleagues from his WCW days—such as Chris Jericho, “Diamond” Dallas Page, and Lodi—are also featured, and the documentary promises appearances from additional wrestlers like Shane Douglas and Buff Bagwell.
Naturally, Raven himself is prominently featured, openly discussing his career and struggles with drug addiction.
In one candid moment toward the end of the trailer, Raven states, “Wrestling and doing drugs are my two things that I’m really f**king good at, and doing drugs is not something you want to be f**king good at.”
This raw admission suggests that the documentary will not shy away from the darker aspects of the veteran wrestler’s journey.
