Following the record-breaking triumph of Deadpool & Wolverine, fans of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have another exciting project to look forward to.
Reynolds recently revealed that he’s collaborating with Jackman and director Shawn Levy on a new film, unrelated to Marvel, which he’s currently writing. This news came during his interview on the Variety Awards Circuit Podcast, set to air later this week.
“I’m spending the year writing,” Reynolds shared on the podcast. “I’m writing a movie for myself, Hugh [Jackman], and Shawn [Levy] to do that is not Marvel.”
Although he kept plot details under wraps, Reynolds’ enthusiasm hints at an original and unexpected project he’ll focus on over the next 12 months.
While it’s unclear if a studio has greenlit the film, the success of Deadpool & Wolverine ensures that this upcoming collaboration will be one of Hollywood’s most anticipated releases.
This project marks the third partnership between Reynolds and Levy. Following their work on Deadpool 3, the pair previously teamed up for the action-comedy Free Guy in 2021 and the sci-fi adventure The Adam Project.
Known for creating crowd-pleasing hits, Levy and Reynolds have established a strong creative dynamic that highlights Reynolds’ comedic flair and engaging performances.
The numbers behind Deadpool & Wolverine speak for themselves: the film has become a box office phenomenon, grossing an astounding $636 million domestically.
This achievement places it as the 12th highest-grossing film in history, sandwiched between Pixar’s Inside Out 2 and Warner Bros.’ summer blockbuster Barbie.
Additionally, Deadpool & Wolverine has overtaken Joker (2019) as the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time and now ranks seventh among Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe releases, recently surpassing Iron Man 3 worldwide.
With an eye on awards season, Disney is actively promoting Deadpool & Wolverine for Golden Globe nominations as a comedy and in the new “cinematic and box office achievement” categories, which celebrate outstanding financial performance.
Films must exceed a $150 million global gross, including a minimum of $100 million in the U.S., to qualify.
Oscar nominations could also be in the cards, particularly in technical categories such as production design, sound, and visual effects.
The campaign could surpass that of the original Deadpool (2016), which earned Golden Globe nominations for Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) and Best Actor for Reynolds, as well as recognition from the Directors Guild, Writers Guild, and Producers Guild of America.
Reynolds, recently winning his second consecutive Primetime Emmy for the acclaimed docuseries *Welcome to Wrexham*, continues to balance commercial hits with critical success.
Jackman, who earned his first Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe win for Les Misérables, and Levy, who received his first Oscar nod as a producer for Arrival and four Emmy nominations for Stranger Things, add substantial star power to this new project.
With Reynolds currently writing the screenplay and both Levy and Jackman on board, this untitled film already promises to be a standout on the horizon.
