The highly anticipated return of The Rookie is just around the corner, and season 7 promises more intense drama, dangerous villains, and sizzling chemistry between Chenford!
In a first look at the official season 7 trailer, it’s clear that the LAPD will face significant challenges after two dangerous criminals escape custody—one of them being Jason Wyler (Steve Kazee), the ex-husband of Officer John Nolan’s (Nathan Fillion) wife, Bailey Nune (Jenna Dewan).
“These are violent criminals, so they’re not going to go down easy,” Tim Bradford (Eric Winter) warns in the trailer as scenes of the LAPD apprehending suspects in action-packed sequences flash across the screen.
As Nyla Harper (Mekia Cox) informs the precinct that both Oscar Hutchinson (Matthew Glave) and Jason are still “at large,” Nolan grows increasingly concerned for Bailey’s safety.
“Jason’s escape puts my wife’s life in danger,” Nolan states, visibly alarmed, as Bailey admits, “There’s a lot I haven’t told you about Jason.”
One tense moment shows Bailey stepping out of her paramedic rig and seemingly confronting Jason, who appears ready to run her over with his car.
Balancing Danger and Emotion
“Being a cop is stressful, 24/7,” Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neil) says, narrating over scenes of high-stakes action. “In this job, we have to separate from the personal. It’s the hardest thing we have to do.”
While suspense and fear dominate much of the trailer, season 7 also teases some lighter moments.
In one scene, Nolan humorously “commandeers” a scooter in pursuit of a suspect, leading to a comical exchange with his partner Celina Juarez (Lisseth Chavez).
“How the hell did you get here before me?” Juarez asks, baffled. “Work harder, not smarter,” Nolan quips, out of breath from the chase.
Chenford’s Electrifying Chemistry
Fans of Lucy and Tim—affectionately known as Chenford—will be thrilled to see the duo engage in a friendly rivalry as they train new recruits, signaling that the frostiness between them at the end of season 6 has thawed.
The trailer also hints at the return of their romantic tension. In one particularly steamy scene, Lucy faces Tim, who is shirtless, and admits, “We shouldn’t.” Tim responds softly, “I know,” before the two lean in, leaving fans on edge as the camera cuts away.
The Stakes Are Higher Than Ever
“Every year on the job is different. Every case is different. You never really stop being a rookie,” Harper reflects ominously. Meanwhile, Angela Lopez (Alyssa Diaz) warns, “Because if we lose control, bad things happen.”
Season 7 of The Rookie will premiere on ABC on Tuesday, January 7, at 10 PM ET, promising to keep viewers on the edge of their seats with its blend of gripping drama, heart-pounding action, and emotionally charged moments.
