Jason Statham and David Ayer joined forces last year to deliver The Beekeeper, a film packed with intense action, elaborate set-pieces, and a plot requiring a touch of suspension of disbelief. Fans have eagerly awaited news of a sequel, but after a year of silence, hope has been reignited.
A recent comment from Ayer, responding to Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, has sparked speculation that The Beekeeper 2 could be on the horizon. Ayer expressed his love for working with Statham, fueling fan excitement for another collaboration.
Statham continues to dominate the streaming scene. From classic Guy Ritchie collaborations to his roles in the Expendables and Fast & Furious franchises, his movies consistently top streaming charts.
The Beekeeper has maintained a strong presence on Prime Video since its release last spring, and this success bodes well for his upcoming film, A Working Man.
Based on Chuck Dixon’s novel Levon’s Trade, A Working Man sees Statham reuniting with Ayer and teaming up with Sylvester Stallone, who co-wrote the script and appears in the film.
Initially slated for release this month, the film’s premiere has been pushed to March. Liefeld’s anticipation was evident in a recent X/Twitter post:
“David, I’m so looking forward to this one! March can’t get here fast enough!”
Ayer responded, hinting at more collaborations to come:
“I appreciate that. I think there is a winning formula. Jason delivers. I really enjoy working with him. I think this one will have a broad appeal like Beekeeper.”
Will The Beekeeper 2 Be Greenlit?
Predicting studio decisions on sequels and franchise renewals can be challenging, but the success of A Working Man could significantly influence the fate of The Beekeeper 2.
Released in January 2024, The Beekeeper turned its $40 million budget into a $153 million box office triumph. Its record-breaking run on Prime Video further solidified its status as a fan favorite, with viewers continuing to stream the movie.
Given that A Working Man is also financed by Amazon MGM Studios and faces minimal competition upon its release, it’s poised to replicate the success of its predecessor.
Amazon MGM Studios would likely seize the opportunity to capitalize on this momentum, which could mean great news for The Beekeeper fans.
Moreover, A Working Man is based on a novel series with multiple sequels, potentially paving the way for another Statham-led franchise. For action enthusiasts, the prospect of more films featuring Statham taking down bad guys—or just anyone who crosses him—is an exciting one.
Fans can catch A Working Man in theaters starting March 28, 2025. Meanwhile, The Beekeeper continues to stream on Prime Video, while other Statham hits, including Expend4bles on Starz and Safe on Freevee, are available on various platforms.
