Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell may play rivals on screen, but off-camera, they’re just two friends keeping up with the latest TikTok craze.
The duo, who star in the upcoming Prime Video comedy You’re Cordially Invited, premiering Thursday, Jan. 30, recently joined the viral dance trend set to Lola Young’s song “Messy.”
This trend, which first took off in November, was popularized by Sofia Richie Grainge and Jake Shane.
In the video, posted on Witherspoon’s TikTok account on Friday, Jan. 24, the Legally Blonde actress, 48, and Ferrell, 57, coordinated in black and gray outfits as they showed off their dance moves.
As the chorus kicked in, Ferrell appeared solo on screen, shaking his hands and walking in place in sync with the beat, mimicking Shane’s original dance moves from his viral TikTok with Richie Grainge.
Witherspoon soon joined him, grooving into the frame, shaking her hips, and mouthing along to the lyrics—perfectly channeling Richie Grainge, 26, whose dance in the original clip quickly became known as “the Sofia Richie Dance.”

“Us? Messy? Wait until you see your movie,” Witherspoon captioned the post, which has already amassed over 4 million views.
The video soon landed on Richie Grainge’s TikTok feed, where she enthusiastically commented, “Life. Made.”
You’re Cordially Invited: A Wedding Day Clash
In You’re Cordially Invited, Witherspoon and Ferrell portray the sister of a bride and the father of a bride, respectively, who find themselves in a chaotic situation when two weddings are mistakenly booked at the same venue on the same day.
Meredith Hagner plays Witherspoon’s on-screen sister, while Geraldine Viswanathan stars as Ferrell’s daughter. According to the official synopsis, “Each bridal party is challenged with preserving their family’s special moment while making the most of the unanticipated tight quarters.”
As tensions rise, Witherspoon and Ferrell’s characters “chaotically go head-to-head as they stop at nothing to uphold an unforgettable celebration for their loved ones.”
The comedy, written and directed by Nicholas Stoller, also features Jimmy Tatro, Stony Blyden, Leanne Morgan, Rory Scovel, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Ramona Young, and Celia Weston.
You’re Cordially Invited begins streaming on Prime Video on Jan. 30.
