Diego Luna’s fight against the Empire escalates in the newly released trailer for Season 2 of Andor.
The Star Wars series, which serves as a prequel to the 2016 film Rogue One, is set to premiere on Disney+ on April 22.
Created and executive produced by Rogue One co-writer Tony Gilroy, the first season followed Cassian Andor (Luna) over the course of approximately a year, chronicling his transformation from a small-time criminal to a key figure in the emerging Rebel Alliance as resistance against the Galactic Empire begins to take shape.
The trailer also reintroduces Rogue One veterans Ben Mendelsohn and Alan Tudyk, who reprise their roles as the ruthless Imperial officer Orson Krennic and the sharp-witted reprogrammed droid K-2SO, respectively.
Luna is joined by returning cast members Stellan Skarsgård, Genevieve O’Reilly, Kyle Soller, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Faye Marsay, Varada Sethu, and Forest Whitaker.
The 12-episode second season will be structured into four chapters, each consisting of three episodes. Every chapter will depict events spanning a few consecutive days, advancing the story through successive years leading up to Rogue One.
“One of the great thrills of making Andor is the scale of the story and the number of characters we’re able to meet — ordinary people, Imperial overlords, passionate revolutionaries,” Gilroy said in a statement previewing the upcoming season
“They are real people making epic decisions, all of them staring down questions with terrifying consequences. Cassian’s journey is the soul and spine of our story, but it’s the choir that makes the show. I’m so excited for audiences to see where we go in Season 2.”
Gilroy serves as an executive producer alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Sanne Wohlenberg, Luna, Luke Hull, and John Gilroy.
The writing team includes Tony Gilroy, who penned the first three episodes, followed by Beau Willimon (Episodes 4-6), Dan Gilroy (7-9), and Tom Bissell (10-12). Directing duties are split among Ariel Kleiman (Episodes 1-6), Janus Metz (7-9), and Alonso Ruizpalacios (10-12).
