Garrett Yrigoyen is about to embark on an exciting new chapter—he’s going to be a dad! The Bachelorette alum and his wife, Alex Yrigoyen, are expecting their first child, a joyous milestone they exclusively shared.
Alex revealed that she discovered her pregnancy while Garrett, 35, was at work. “I was home for a couple of days just holding the secret in myself,” she recalled. “I didn’t know if it was real. I was, like, cautiously optimistic.”
When Garrett returned from his firefighting shift, Alex set the scene to break the big news. “I lit some candles to set the mood and wrote a little card to share the news just with him,” she said.
“We were both really excited,” noting that they decided to keep the news private for a while before sharing it with others.
Garrett’s Reaction: Pure Excitement
Garrett, who gained fame during his stint on The Bachelorette in 2018, couldn’t contain his enthusiasm. “Immediately, I got super giddy. I was pumped up,” he shared.
“She ran over, and she’s like, ‘Oh, my God, can you believe it?’ I was like, ‘No way,’ because I thought, like, that happened so fast.”
The couple revealed that Alex discovered she was pregnant in the summer of 2024 and was 16 weeks along when they spoke with Us Weekly in December.
Sharing the News
The Yrigoyens waited until the holiday season to inform their families. Garrett’s parents were the first to know, receiving Christmas ornaments on Thanksgiving that revealed their grandchild would arrive in June 2025. Alex’s family learned the exciting news during the couple’s Christmas visit to San Diego.
Keeping the Baby’s Gender a Surprise
As they prepare for parenthood, Garrett and Alex have decided not to find out their baby’s gender until the birth.
“We feel like there’s only a little bit of surprises that you can get in life, so we’re going to wait till the end,” Garrett said. Alex agreed, explaining, “We want to share that moment just between the two of us, whether it’s a boy or a girl.”
Parenting Hopes and Dreams
Garrett doesn’t have a preference for the baby’s gender, but he’s already envisioning adventures with his future child. “I’m just hopeful to have a little fishing buddy, boy or girl,” he shared. “Someone to go out adventuring with us, traveling around the world together. I need somebody out there fishing with me.”
A Love Story Leading to Parenthood
Garrett first gained widespread attention after winning Becca Kufrin’s final rose on season 14 of The Bachelorette in 2018. Although they got engaged during the show’s finale, their relationship ended in September 2020.
Becca, 34, later found love with Thomas Jacobs on Bachelor in Paradise season 7, and the couple married in October 2023 after welcoming their son, Benson, a month prior.
Garrett moved on with Alex later in 2020, going public with their relationship that October. They got engaged two years later and tied the knot in November 2023 in a dreamy Hawaiian ceremony on the island of Oahu.
Reflecting on their special day, Garrett wrote on Instagram, “Forever till the end of time … what a magic moment and the most perfect day. I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful bride and now wife.”
Excitement for the Future
Now, as the couple looks forward to becoming parents, Garrett and Alex couldn’t be more thrilled. “I can’t wait to see her as a mom, and I think it’s gonna be a lot of fun together,” Garrett said, praising Alex. “She’s going to pass on all of her smarts and athleticism and everything like that, just adventuring around.”
Alex is equally confident in Garrett’s ability to be a great dad. “He’s been talking about it for so long,” she said. “Seeing him light up every time we talk about things is definitely giving me so much faith that he’s going to be an amazing father.”
